I just found out about BP adapters oil filter adapter or remote filter kits to do away with the cartridge filter , May be the first mechanical mod I do to my new taco … I replace a lot of plastic housings at work due to the threads wearing as a lot of folks over tighten them ! And a remote filter might be sweet , just have to decide where to plumb it too …!

Already have one waiting for my first oil change , Just thought a spin on adapter might be cool and cleaner ...

I agree, I like the old style Taco oil changes. I just hate the idea of lines that can fail (but would also double as a cooler).

you just can't skimp on the materials used , and have to account for engine movement flexing the lines . I've done plenty of remotes in Flatbottom boats etc. And they offer a couple different outlet port positions that would work well with a little forethought ...

If you dont overtighten the stock housing then no reason you should wear the threads out.

I have the spin on adaptor on mine and I’m happy with it.

At 100,000 miles the filter will have been on and off a max of 20 times, that’s not going to ware out threads. I’ve had plenty of vehicles with this style housing on oil and fuel filters, never had an issue. (Except busted O ring on fuel filter one time). I’ve also use remote oil filter kits you’ve mentioned, they work great, but I’ve only used them when I’ve needed to move the filter for other reasons (4x4 conversation, new axle would hit stock location, and get it out the way with low ground clearance). They have worked great, but have always weaped oil, never enough to worry about though.

If you are doing your own maintenance, and are not an idiot, you won’t have a problem with this style filter. All the problems are due to idiots or lazy fucks, a standard spin-on won’t save you from that either.

I know all about the plastic housings being overtightened , folks overtighten the metal ones too ! I am a professional mechanic and have been working on Toyotas since 1978 … Trust me I have removed more than one plastic housing with a chisel and I have every filter socket for Toyotas they make . Folks just don't seem to understand that the tight fitting oring seals the element and the housing only has to be a tick past hand tight . All overtightening does is distort the whole assembly and wear it out ! I have removed a few metal ones with a half inch breaker bar too ! I just learned of the adapters and thought it would be a nice convienent mod for my own truck . And trust me , we keep plastic and metal housings in stock at work , and the metal ones cost less than the plastic ones …!!!

If you are doing your own maintenance on your truck then why do you think your housing is going to be overtightened?

mine won't be overtightened , I just work on vehicles all day and would like to make my own as convienent and clean as possible ….And the added cooling and capacity of a remote might add to the longevity of the last new truck I believe I have bought …. I'm getting older every day !!!
