Nitto Ridge Grappler Review

Hi Gents,

Been following this thread for a while and appreciate all the insight!

I'm set on the NRG tire but I'm at a loss when it comes to size.

Right now I'm running 265/70/17 on stock suspension. I have the OME 3" lift about to be installed in the next few weeks.

I have been researching which tire size will look/perform best and not require me to cut/tuck any fender material.

With that being said, I have been told by a "tire guy" that the 33/12.5/17 will give me what i'm looking for without cutting fenders. I've also been told by some TW guys that 285/75/17 will work.

Any help/suggestions are much appreciated!

 

I did the bilstein 6112/5160 with deaver mini-pack lift. About 2 3/4 in the front with about 1 1/2 lift in the rear. I am running 285/70/R17's on 17 x 8.5 0 offset and -4.75. I had to do a CMC and a bit of trimming to eliminate rubbing when aired down. It fits oh so nice now. I would like to move up to 305/70R17 but that would involve more cutting and trimming and pounding the firewall.

 

Stay with 285s.
12.5” look way too wide, in my opinion, for a 2-3” raised truck. You’ll also appreciate a little less rolling resistance.

 

Just checking in to see how you are still liking your Ridge Grapplers? I just had a set of 285/70/17s installed this week. Coming from a set of 265/75/16 Duratracs. I put 32k miles on my duratracs and my god they had gotten extremely loud. 1 duratrac had started to wear a little funny but other 3 were still at least 1/3 of the original tread still remaining. What kind of life/mileage should I expect out of the new Nitto's? And you are recommending tire pressure around 36/37?

Looks great. Funny you should ask, the talk of tires has reared it's head as of late. Not sure why, I am still happy.

I shot these pics the other day, this is at about 15k - 16k miles, but none of it is off road.

I have not measured them with my caliper but to me they look new still, save for some dirt or scuffing. Maybe they are 25% worn????

I will have to measure.

I definitely still like them. Even now they are still smooth and quiet like they were new. Now, there are times, when the truck sits (it's not my DD) and they sorta get a little flat spot. So for the first maybe 3 miles or so there is a tiny amount of steering wheel wobble. I think that has always been that way though. But for the most part I am still astonished how quiet they are, or how smooth.

I hope to try them out off road here in Maryland before I need new ones.

I would definitely recommend them to anyone.

I checked right away down at the mailbox (was on my way out to test my CAI fix, another story) and both front and rear tires measured 14/32s in the middle of the tire. 14/32s !!! Factory is 16.4/32s. I have about 15k miles on these. Soooo, what's that, 2.4/32s less. LOLOLOLOL

I’ve been running Terra Grapplers since 2009 I think? Always the E rated tires and higher pressures for better load capacity and high speed on road manners. Just air down for off road. Last set has 40000 miles of aggressive driving on and off road and I’m just getting to the point where they are showing tread wear.

I’m going to go with the Ridge Grapplers this time. Why wouldn’t we want more plys? I’m not sure about the argument for the c class other than $.

 

I agree about going with the E range. I like mine a lot.

 

Where r u guys getting good deals on these? Cheapest ive found is 240 ea shipped. Everywhere else is 256ea shipped.

285/70/17 E

 

E range is always more. That 285 adds. Are you near a Discount Tire Direct? They have free M/B at least. Sometime discounts.

 

Nowhere near a dtd. They aint cheap.. but they are pretty. Thats why we pay. Maybe labor day sales will lead to a score..

 

I know sometimes some local places will price match online retailers.

 

My local GMC dealership that services (and sells us most of our other cars and trucks) our other vehicles has a price match guarantee. I typically let them know what I need well in advance and they hunt down the best deal. They’ve had me wait until the end of the month so I’ll get an available $100.00 rebate. I’ve never heard of a rebate on Nitto’s ...lol....but I’m still sticking with them because we’ve gotten a couple rebates from GoodYear through them. I try to also give my business to the local shop that will be fixing anything that I can’t plug on my own.

 

If you’re not with a local shop, see what the local 4wheel parts store can do for you. The staff in Jacksonville FL are great and can do some amazing things with hard to find parts and tires and pricing as well. They have store to store transfer and warehouse pick up that can really save some $. I’m assuming that same thing can work for tires...never bought tires from them though.

I know right! Like I said, 15k miles and only 2.4 mm of wear. Works for me!

 

Why are these tires so heavy? The C load 265 70 17 is heavier than some bigger tires. Why is that?
