Discount Tire Direct Question

Looking at buying new tires online and Discount Tire direct seems to have the best competitive prices. Wanted to know if anyone else purchases from them here.

Also they offer to insure each tire if it gets damaged with "certificates".

The way I read it is, "if your tire gets damaged beyond repair we will send you a new tire as long as the tread depth is not under 3/32 depth."

So does that mean if I wear my tires down and when it gets close to beyond the legal limit, I slash the side of the tire, they will send me a brand new tire? How do people not take advantage of this? Seems like its easy to get new tires from them for free.

Discount Tire Direct guarantees the lowest delivered price on the internet for all the products they sell. If you happen to find a lower delivered price send a link to verify the price and they will beat it.

Regarding the Certificate for Repair or Replacement program, our founder was the first to offer such a program some 40 years ago. He did it to help our customers in a time of need should they suffer irreparable damage to their tires down to 3/32nds of an inch of tread depth. If you were to intentionally slice a tire, first that would be dishonest and wrong, but secondly, that would not qualify as a road hazard. That would be vandalism which you would need to claim under your car insurance policy.

Last year alone Discount Tire replaced over 17,000 tires through this program with valid road hazard claims.

 

People who commit fraud are pieces of trash (not direced at you OP) that screw up programs like this intended for honest people. I had a great experience at Discount Tire. I hope they continue to prosper. I really value their commitment to their customer and presence on TW.

I am an honest person and would not try to cheat a company who is truly looking out for their customers, but unfortunately not everyone is raised right or with morals. I try to look at things from others perspectives and could see how assholes might try to cheat you guys. My intent was not to encourage fraud! I was just wondering if I was reading the description right.

Since I have you guys on the line, what is the deal with the Pathfinder tires? Are those made by you guys directly?

Deciding between the Pathfinder and Falken Wildpeaks.

 

I never wanted or intended to imply the OP would commit fraud. I could tell from the tone of the post it was out of curiosity. I hope no offense was taken OP.

 

None at all! Text is hard to get my tone across. It comes with being on the internet.

 

I have a story that addresses this directly that I want to share here.

I took my wife's Honda in to replace 2 rear tires that had cupping. I was prepared to pay for 2 new tires. The sales rep measured the remaining tread and it could not have been any closer to 3/32". He asked if I had gotten the tires at America's Tire (the local name for Discount Tire) and I said that I had no idea but was ready to pay anyways. We went inside and he looked it up and sure enough she had bought the tires there before we were a unit and before when I would have known about it. They gave me 2 new tires under their program free of charge.

Long story short, I would have just bought 2 new tires and the sales rep was under no obligation to even inquire with me, nor to look it up under my wife's maiden name, but he did it anyways and we benefited.

I am now a loyal customer of Discount / America's tire and I always give them the first shot at my business because of this excellent customer service. I have entirely too many vehicles: wife's car, my Taco, a crawler heep, a 59' vette, a car hauler, a sand rail, and I have to deal with my aging parents cars. As long as Discount / America's tire is within a couple of bucks out the door, they get my business.

Literally, my only complaint, is that they have too many damned customers and I have to either make an appointment or wait.

ETA: Not posting this because I am being compensated in any way, I am just an extremely happy customer and not enough good customer service gets recognized and rewarded these days.

 

I just ordered the Cooper At3 4s tires from Discount Tire Direct. Should have them by Monday. They priced matched and beat the lowest price I sent. Great first experience so far!

 

I ordered my Wildpeaks from them, price was really good and shipping was quick.

 

I like dealing with them. They normally have my tire size and if they don't they will have a near by store hold them for you to get there or order them at their location. I have used their certicate for repair, costs like $40 I think. Ran over a nail that was too close to the sidewall and wasn't repairable. They got me a brand new tire of the same size. I had the option for the same brand tire or pay the difference for a more expensive tire. Originally had Firestone and opted to pay the difference for BFG plus the certificate for repair. I bought another BFG so I had 2 matching pairs with equal tread. Just for that i continue to go there, if anything happens to the tires they have a locations all over so no worries if your on vacation or out of town.

I don't know if Discount Tire direct is the same as Discount Tire

 

Love my Wildpeaks 265/70/17, ordered through DT direct, very helpful and smooth transition. Actually was PM them on TW. Got them in 6 days, tires and installation at discount tire near me about $650

Just ordered 4 Cooper AT 3s and 4 Pro Comp 69s today. I have to drive an hour but they were great with tech support and friendly. I'm pumped.
