It's all done via the 4wd ECU, once you do the locker anytime mod/wire in the ADD switch everything will work like normal

What he said, it all works fine, I used a relay for my locker mod, I don't have the ecu anymore at all

Does anyone know if it's possible to retain TRAC system functionality when doing this swap?

Excuse my revival of an old thread, but the FJ case I bought seems to have an extra piece at the end of it, whereas the tacoma case that you removed in the pictures here does not have it. Can anyone explain what this is and how to remove it or if I bought the wrong case?

That input shaft on the fj case mates to an auto trans. you’ll need to split the cases and swap the shafts between your old tacoma case and the fj one.

I have an auto trans, I thought you were only required to take the case apart if you had a manual trans?

Im getting really mixed answers from many different people, could possibly be due to confusion.

    I have a (2007 Tacoma 4x4 Automatic Trans)

I bought a transfer case from a (2010 FJ Cruiser 4x4 Automatic Trans)

Will the transfer case I purchased work in my truck without any modification to the transfer case itself? I included a picture of the case in this reply. The input shaft on the transfer case I purchased looks different from the transfer case in the original post. Although that could possibly be from OP having a manual trans taco.

The first post has a great description. The photo you posted above should fit in an automatic Tacoma without having to swap input shafts. Only manual transmission Tacomas should need the input swap due to a different spline count. Now for what it's worth, I haven't done the swap (yet). Just have researched it a bit.

    I think so too.

I believe the confusion came from me sending people half a picture of the t-case I bought, which created some confusion. All good now, Wyatt cleared everything up in an email I just sent him as well.

Was really getting freaked out at the idea of having an unusable t-case sitting in my house that wont fit my truck haha. Twin Sticks are ordered so should be doing the swap in the next few weeks once it gets warmer

So by reading this thread and going to the RST website I did the whole swap from an FJ AT/TC to my manual 6spd Tacoma, everything is going well the only issue I found is that I have two hoses coming from my taco and the fj tcase only had one open input (or output) for the hose by the shift stick so I connected both there. did I do that right? I didn’t seem to find where the hoses would be connected anywhere on the internet! I’m afraid of being driving the taco around without being 100% sure that both hoses should be connected to the input on the side of the stick lever

Sorry to be a bother but I want to do this to my 2005 Tacoma DCSB 4.0 - 6 Speed manual transmission.

What transfer case will work in my situation? From what I have read so far it looks like the automatic transmission transfer case from the FJ will work. But what year range should I be looking for?

Any other tips would be greatly appreciated. I will be reading this thread over and over to pick up as much as I can.

    Cheers

I haven't gotten around to do the conversion yet on my 6 speed but from what I've read:
TC from auto, swap the input shaft from the Tacoma into the FJ.

    Just for clarification.

Do I need the input shaft from the FJ to put into my Tacoma?

The way you worded it sounds like I’m driving the FJ. Which I’m not. Just want to be clear.

    Thanks for the help

    TCase from an FJC Auto
use the input shaft from the Tacoma

this takes some work to convert the FJC TCase to mate with your transmission

you can check with Rock Solid Toys to see if they have a TCase they can build for you with the internals already swapped over...

As the other members noted, the output shaft on a 6 speed Tacoma transmission will not fit the input shaft on the FJ transfer case. Therefore, you have to take the input shaft out of the Tacoma transfer case and install it on the FJ transfer case. I believe Rock Solid Toys has a YouTube video of the swap.

Did you get this figured out?

I plan to do this myself and I have the 6 speed manual.

Sorry to revive this thread, however, this thread was one of the main reasons I joined this forum.

I have been doing some research regarding this drive train upgrade and have a question regarding the t-case shifter placement? and if there is any interference with transmission shifter? I ask, because if you look at the shifter knobs for both the auto and manual t-cases, they exhibit different shifting pattern. The auto t-case is a U-shaped shifting pattern and the manual transmission t-case shifter has a "dog-leg" shifting pattern. Both auto and Manual t-case shifters have the P/N 36360G.

So, has anyone that has done this upgrade experienced interference with the main shifter and the t-case shifter??

And is there a preferred year of fj cruiser t-case to use? Have found some vague info about that but nothing solid.
