Neither have I, might do something in the fall before snow hits it and becomes impassible.

That was a great trail, I just did that area Friday and Saturday last week. I wouldn't do it without 4x4 though. Some spots are technical, the switch backs are wild, and some of the hill climbs are awesome. I was glad to be in a TRD OFF ROAD.

I think you passed us while we were airing down Saturday around 1pm. 2 Tacoma’s (black and white) and a tundra

Trail is pretty mellow. My buddy ran it easily in his stock 4x2 Tacoma sport with falken tires. We had to turn around 6miles in bc my buddy got a sidewall flat and his lug nuts didn’t fit in his spare correctly so we called it quits and spent the weekend in mammoth.

Wow, glad you guys are ok. If you only went 6 miles in, you didn’t get to the technical parts. I was concerned about you guys going up there with a 4x2 Tacoma, those Falcon tires are no match for that place, even a 4x4 Tacoma should have some good AT’s to go up there. The KO2’s did well the whole way through the rocky mess. We went up Friday and went through all of coyote flats area and camped the night. There were lots of sharp rocks, were we went to camp, it was a rock garden to get there. I was leaving to go back home when you saw us, I went to the canyon the next day on my motorcycle.

Hmm find thae kinda hard to believe. We did almost all of the trail that’s rated medium and were just shy of where the trail switches to easy. Got any pics/videos of these crazy rock gardens/technical sections?!

Here is the link to the thread I did on Coyote Flats. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/tacoma-off-road-in-the-sierra-forest.561686/#post-18389232
The guy that helped your friend with the flat in the sidewall is my friend named Tom. I told Tom he might have to help you guys out when he went back up the hill, after I saw you airing down, which he did. I just talked to him. He said you guys hadn't made it to far up the switch backs when he stopped to help you. Thats why he advised you like I warned you about going up there with the way your trucks were set up. It does get more technical for a few more miles, then it gets mild until Funnel lake area which is where it got to be like a rock garden. You can't really see all the sharp rocks in my video, Tom was leading us because he is the most experienced. At some points going up a step hill I couldn't see ahead of my hood of my truck so I just did my best to follow Toms lines. Just glad you all made it out ok, Good Luck

coyote flats is very mellow. It can easily be done in a 2wd. Now trying to take the trail into big pine off coyote flats, that can’t be done in a 2wd. But unless theirs snow on the ground a 2wd will have no issues if it has a decent set of tires on it, especially if it has a locker

The road up from Bishop is not a big deal. Don't be dumb and you won't pay stupid tax. The road up from big pine is more fun. There are a few sections that you have to "drive" but I have done it several times in a tacoma that sits on 285/75 r16's. I like to drive up from big pine, and back down the bishop side. The scenery seems to keep one upping it's self as you go heading in that way. Just air down, drive smart, and please clean up around the lake when you get there.

I've been doing annual trips here for many years. Went mid August this year and the trail was the gnarliest I've ever seen it. Lots of large ruts from runoff. Very fun but might be sketchy without 4wd. We hiked from the end of the trail up to cloudripper peak.

I highly recommend for backcountry camping. There is a trail that will take you up over 11000ft elevation to the ridge above green lake if you want some amazing pics and a more challenging trail.
