    I've got a 2015 4x4 with 30,000 km on it.

I've got a moose hunt coming up and need to tow a trailer. First I'd have to install a hitch and then find/beg/borrow or buy a trailer.

How much weight could I tow with my truck?

I bought a Curt and installed it, was easy.
I then rented the small U-Haul trailer and drove 1500 lbs of stuff from WA to SC. Averaged 24 mpg too!

Without a brake controller, I'd personally keep it to under 1500lbs or so total weight. Your state may have laws that surround such topics too (towing without braked trailer), but I doubt many police would care unless you happen to get into an accident that might involve longer than normal brake distances.

Yep. 4cyls tow just fine. A moose won't overtax it. I've used a trailer in the mountains quiet a bit for moose or elk. I did have to get use to running lower gear/higher RPM.

There's a thread around here somewhere about what people are towing with their 4cyl.

The 2.7 is rated to pull 3,500 lbs, but that would be a load. I’ve pulled 1800-2000 lbs a couple times with mine, and it did fine.

I'm also rocking a Curt. I have been happy with it. I have only used it a few times though.

I'm hoping for a younger bull moose, maybe 600 or 700 pounds of meat and bone to haul, not 1200 pounds.

I used to tow 900 pounds with my Chevy Cruze. It had a 1.4T engine that made 138HP and weighed 3,300 pounds. I think the 3,500 pound recommendation is correct for the 2.7L Tacoma as long as you pay attention to all of the other factors. Center the load over the axle, use weight distributing hitch, sway control, and trailer brakes when necessary. Consider aero drag and hills when planning your trip. Just don't be dumb when it comes to towing, there are a lot of ways you can do it wrong.

Edit: I mean really, there's guys out there towing 30,000 pounds with their dad's King Ranch F-350

I tow a trailer with a zero turn on it all the time. You can definitely tell it’s back there, but it still goes from A to b.

I used to work at a trailer shop and we used an electric golf cart to tow 16 footers around the lot. We also used a 4cl s10 exclusively. With a brake controller you could tow nearly any trailer.

Also have the Curt hitch, great product. I tow and launch/recover a ~1300 lb boat almost every weekend and have no issues. Just avoid overdrive/5th gear and be cognizant that braking will be reduced without trailer brakes. Good luck.
