I can't believe you have those complaints yet ignore the new TSB that's well documented here to fix issues with the transmission.
I guess if I had those issues and read about the fix here I would have called my dealership and made them re-flash the new software first and see if it made a difference. Then if it still sucked I would have started another my transmission sucks thread.:notsure:

Ok I had mine done this morning, and had great customer service from beginning to end. they even drove me home and picked me up. I went in with a stack of report that I printed out and brain full of information to take them down, none of that was needed though. I told them they should educate themselves for anyone else that comes though with the same objectives. I was the first one who they have preformed this TSB for. Thumbs up for Merced Toyota Ca!!!!!! As for the tune itself they truck runs a little smoother, at a full stop I don't get the erratic talk off and from 30-40 I don't have a slump in power anymore. those were my two biggest concerns. So im back to being a happy Tacoma owner....

    good luck guys.....

1500 miles is not enough to make complaints about the shifting of the transmission. the truck drives completely different after 10k miles and after it learns driving habits. Im not saying that the transmission is perfect by any means, it could use a lot of improvments, but it really is an apples to oranges difference....or at the very least a green apple vs red apple difference lol.

Was there some magical change that should have occurred post 10K? I didn't know I had an adaptive tranny. Mine at 10K still feels like I am driving a camel with Tourettes 40-50mph.

Did you read OP’s post? He said he had the reflash done (18) the last two digits of the TSB.

I thought it was getting too chummy around here recently with all the positive threads on the tsb fixes. Feels like home here now.

Mine works perfect. You can test drive my truck.

Cruise works perfect. Drove from DC to upstate NY, DC to Savanah GA, DC to Denver all on cruise no issues.

I put 15000 miles on the truck in the first 6 months.

Like i said, it still has a few annoyances, and could definitely be improved. but it does perform way better than it did new....I am getting my tranny flashed to the latest TSBs next week at my 50k mile check-up, hopefully that will help. I was given a tundra as a loaner a few months ago and that is how a transmission should act, but the tacoma's transmission isn't as bad as some vehicles.....i had a ford fusion for a rental car a while back and that was a bad transmission all around. i can't say im a fan of these new CVT transmissions either, unless i just haven't run across a good one.

That will get waaaay better the more miles you put on. My 16 did the same and I was about to trade it in for a Tundra when it start getting better at 12K miles. Now I am at 55,000 miles and I am very very happy with the low end not shifting down torque and acceleration and I am at 6000 ft absl.

You will learn to LOVE that truck. I did... Till it almost caught fire with me and my son in the truck....

May just be the drivers adapting to the transmission instead of the other way around

I do not understand why someone thinks these trucks should hold 6th gear on a hill. Its an overdrive it is doing what it is suppose too do. I drive a F250 Super Duty for work. Its geared for work and pulling trailers. It also shifts down on inclines. Its what it does. If you don't want to shift down lock it in 5th or in 4th and let it rev an it want shift down in 4th.

Even better is it's a double OD tranny so if it does shft out of 6th to 5th, it's still in OD. And if it's a step or long climb, of course it's going to double downshift out of OD.
Lockng out the top OD really does address about 90% of the complaints here. It's a bitch that that is "necessary" though.

Without a doubt. If gear ratio in 5th was 6th gear ratio. 5th was a little lower than what 5th is now. I think everything would be fine. I don't drive real easy at lower speeds so I really don't notice anything.
