The bear should be able to smell food (you) and climb their way up the ladder, no?

    This is a serious question.

maybe if you are covered in bacon grease...otherwise they really dont like humans. They are more attracted to the food you bring not you.

I always laugh when I hear people saying that RTT provide protection from wildlife.

Not a chance!!! Not at all.

If you have ever witnessed bears in the wild, you may have learned the following:

1- even small bears are immensely powerful

    2- bears are excellent climbers

3- bears can stand on their hind legs

4 - a bear can walk up your hood, or ladder, no issues.

5 - a bear could pull your whole tent off your truck.

Your only protection from bears is not to be stupid with food and the fact that bears are mostly not predatory of humans. They are beautiful animals and are easy to co-exist with for non-morons. If they actually wanted to eat you, you’d be right honest fuckered in your RTT, or sleeping in your cab.....they can get in there too.

Have you never ground camped? Look at thru hikers that do the pct or at. They Sleep in what I barely consider a tent in the middle of grizzly territory or black bear territory. Pack your food in a bear can if your that conserned about it. Leave it 20 yards or so away from your camp when you go to bed.

They can tear the door off. I have seen a car door fully torn off from a bear that was going after food left in the car.

My google-fu is failing me right now but if you have ever been to Yosemite or the Portal at Whitney they have pictures of the tops of cars peeled like a tin can.
