Am at my dealership today to replace my AC blower motor in my 2017 Toyota Tacoma under warranty. The dealer told me as of last night, Toyota recalled the old blower motor and now has to order the new blower motor for me. About time after so many complaints.

There’s a difference between a recall and a superceded part number. My guess is the latter of which they meant

Just letting you know what the service writer said to me. He said recalled and said they redesigned the motor. I don’t know what a TSB is.

TSB is a technical service bulletin . Simply put ,it is a manufacturers approved method of correcting or fixing a common problem with their product. Not all will need the repair , but if it does occur , it will list parts and instructions how to correct it . I bet this is what the dealer meant .
Edit , Welcome and thanks for the info . This is the place to find out early about things like this and more.

So is the potential recall due to the AC blower motor crapping out, or for the AC not cooling enough because of the shitty motor?

My AC runs fine but it doesn’t cool as it should.

Thanks for the info. I am sure their are way more savvy people out there who will clarify if it’s a recall or a TSB or something else.
I am new to this forum and only have good intentions.

Most likely due to the crappy blower fan, you can try to get it addressed for your "not cooling enough" issue but I don't believe this is the case

Recalls are safety related, TSB's are problem related and "as needed"...unless the blower motor is coming out of the dash and eating people, it would be a TSB at best.

Welcome to TW...metric shit ton of info here...more than enough to assist in detecting someone trying to blow smoke up your ass!

Just walked out of being written up for my 25k service and even though I don’t have this issue my advisor just said this “recall” dropped yesterday. His words not mine.

He added it to my list of work to be done. I didn’t even know this existed. Doubt they would add a TSB if I didn’t mention any issues to bring up a TSB. I am guessing my advisor is right in saying this is a Recall.

Yeah pretty sure for them to recall an ac blower motor it would have to grenade and kill everyone in the cab. Does everyone remember the Prius brake issues and Toyota/Lexus unintended acceleration (hint they all killed people). Recalls are red marks against a manufacturer and TSB's are fixes for discovered issues after deployment.

    "Service campaign"

Let's clarify this once and for all so that there's no confusion, and that we're armed with accurate information: In terms of severity of safety risk, a customer service campaign is the least problematic; a TSB is reported to NHTSA but not necessarily to car owners and typically cover a new car quirk; a recall is a safety defect that must be fixed and customers must be notified.

IDGAF if you agree or not...those are the facts :hattip:

So what’s a ‘certain 2016-2017’? If you’re already experiencing this problem or everyone, whether you’ve experienced this problem or not?

Glad to see they are addressing that problem, seems like there have been quite a few failures

Unknown lift, maybe 2" I don't know how to ID it, and would rather set it back to stock.
Very interesting.......I'll keep watching this one for updates, and input from Tacoma owners who get this service campaign completed.

Soooo, did they change parts for the 18's? If not, I guess they'll just wait for those to start breaking before including them too.
