Hmmm Thats a good question. My tweets are about 21mm deep. That's just shy of an inch (25.4mm). It was tight but I would guess it could be done. You could always heat up the plastic with a heatgun and push the plastic out from behind before cutting the hole (I did that) to gain the needed space. You will need to cut the ribs on the back side of the sail panel before hand. Push it out about 3 or 4mm and you might get the depth you need. Just be careful with the heat. Too much heat at once and you will soften the "texture gain look" in the plastic.

    for information:

Third Gen Corner Cover (sail panel) part numbers
    67491-04060-C0
    67492-04060-C0

I just ordered a set of Morel Tempo Ultra 692s (6x9 component set). The tweeter flush mount dimensions are 20mm deep by 50mm wide, and I am hoping to get them in the sail with little issue (yeah right)..

    https://www.morelhifi.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/Tempo-Ultra-2-way-manual-FINAL.pdf

Crutchfield has them on sale right now for $299, and even though they say they wont fit, they will using Metra 82-8146.......

I flush mounted my morels in the a pillar. There is a small gap on the sides of of the tweeter because the a pillar has a slight curve to it. I think it still looks decent and it’s much better sound than the factory location.

It is much better than the factory location. the best would be on axis but that would be doing some custom work on the A pillars. Try some double sided tape and see how they sound before you cut your holes in the a pillars.

So the Hilux part numbers for the sail panels start with the same pre-fixes as the Tacoma (67492/67491). I wonder if it's worth the risk LOL

Maybe give it a try. You can always return it. Let me know if you do it and it works out!

While you were heating it up, what did you use to flatten/push out the plastic? I'm thinking of using a piece of wood, cut to 54mm diameter (the cut out is 50mm) in order to have a uniform surface in the mounting spot. Did you apply heat to the surface side, or the under side?

I hate to keep asking questions, but I don't wan't to spend $570 on custom pods (local quote), and I do not want to learn fiberglassing on my own and fuck it up and have to look at it all the time. I'm weird like that.....

I heated up the underside. Was hoping it would maintain the surface "elephant texture" better on the outside. It still changed it some but not bad. After the plastic was warm, I pushed it out with a piece of wood just like you are describing. Works pretty well.

I have put in Racesport gen3 leds I'm the process of doing a custom audio overhaul which will include Hybrid audio unity 6x9 mid bass, unity 3 inch mid driver in the dash and fiberglassing tweets in pilar soundeading all the doors, floors, and headliner and I will be using a helix processor to retain the factory radio and as far as subs I might make custom brackets to move rear seat foward a few inches to get a full size sub in there or I might just go with a pair of jl tw5 or tw3 and it will all be powered by jl audio HD amps or I might try out the new hybrid amps
To anyone on this forum I can build you custom sail panel, or custom pillars for your tacos! I can do somthing subtle or crazy! On axis or of axis I’m a car audio installer by trade and I have 12+ years of experience and im a custom fabricator! I’ve done custom door panels, trunks, pillars e.t.c.... I own a third gen so my dad has a second gen and coworker a first gen so i can get measurements for any of them. Here’s some pics of my taco pilllar I wanted somthing subtle and that did not jump out and catch unwanted attention! There is also some random custom work I’ve done some 1st gen Tacoma pillars and stuff.
