Playing catch up. No sooner than we bought the truck, I went down with kidney cancer, had surgery for that, and spent the next 18 months paying for my Urologist's new Range Rover. Once that was over, a few things around home, then back to building the truck. I'd hoped to have had this done before LAST spring, maybe 2 years ago....But late is better than not at all...

Will retire in early August next summer. The wife and I will be on the road a lot after that. Plans building for Canada/Alaska trip as the pinnacle!

 

Buy tent, build expo trailer!

 

Remote possibility.....but.....Gotta keep my feet on the ground. Not looking to spend outrageous amounts on something that gets used 5 or 10 days a year. Looking to retire in less than a year. Would like to save a few more pesos between now and then.

 

Thinking out loud here....I will add this; I don't hesitate to add things that help the truck's off road ability as I can afford it. ie the onboard air....eventual front locker, etc.... While these things total in the neighborhood of what will be spent for a RTT, they will se far more use. Me and a few buddies have a few places we go wheelin' close to home. Nothing extravagent, but fun to play around. We go 2 or 3 times a month....may go later on this evening in fact. Then there's the half dozen or so more in depth trail rides. (ie RRG, Black Mountain, Badlands...so far this summer.) The RTT on the other hand would only be used once or twice a year at most. Just not a huge priority. I haven't convinced myself I even want one. (Reason why I may rent trailer with one)
Mainly, looking ahead to longer trips once I retire...

 

I bought got a great deal on it used it twice and honestly after a night of rest the last thing I wanna do before i hit the trail again is tonpack it up. I say mod the truck sorry a lil drinking going on

 

I couldn't agree more. Gotta stay true to the purpose. Mod the Truck first imho. You just scored a great deal on a Cap. Get things modded that are Bread 'n Butter, things you'd need more frequently.

 

At work on a Sunday. I've got a few things listed on Craigslist. Woke this morning to a couple irate emails because I didnt respond to a message IMMEDIATELY after it was sent AT 3:10AM.

I will now respond at 6AM, and expect immediate return response.

 

I swear, some mothers’ children...they’re just a K-Mart away from a public spanking.

I get that at work. Email flies, then a follow-up IM “have you seen my email yet?”

 

I've been back at work for a week now & I'm just gettin' to the Welcome Back ones.

 

I returned to about 2 dozen "Where the fuck you been" emails. For some strange reason, no one thinks I'm entitled to vacation time. (But they are) Got news for 'em....Gonna find me missing in action quite a bit in the next year. I have to use up anything accumulated from previous years before I can retire or I don't get paid for them. Just found out that minor technicality a few days ago. So...16 weeks + 5 MORE weeks between now and next August. Will burn at least 6 weeks before the end of this year, then 5 weeks at once next March/April when we go to Oregon.

 

So next Year after Oregon, you're actually Oragone then?

 

August 5th 2019 will be my last day here.

I MAY.....MAY....agree to a salary as a "consultant" for a few hours a week. I don't see them agreeing to my terms, but they don't have too many options. I hold the high cards.

 

So they expect some "green" guy to just like Dovetail into your position with no training or mentorship? That's about as successful as quittin' smoking cold turkey. Are they Crazy?

I'm actually starting the process of finding my eventual replacement.

The economy is so strong right now there's no one applying.

 

Big part is having a "give a shit" attitude. Your kinda job is a perveyor of all things. The Members, Vendors & Suppliers, the staff. It's not a 9 to 5 gig. You gotta be dedicated & motivated. Hard if not impossible to find these days. Maturity sadly seems to be a lacking standard these days.

 

Just got called into work. Will be leaving in a few minutes. We have flooding in the building. Over 4" of rain in 2-1/2 hours.

 

That's a lot of rain, becareful.

 

4.6" rain here. 2 miles away had 0. Small cell stalled overhead and rained itself out. We have water ponded in places I've never seen it before.

Less than 2 hours sleep. Ready to call it a day.

 

Nothing here???

 

From Audubon Park to the zoo got flooded. We got nothing at home.


And they're running irrigation on the golf course this morning.
