how bad is my dealer trying to screw me???

so im in the process of buying a 2018 trd pro calvery blue. they sent me the window sticker of 45,122 and i figured that was right around what ive been seeing for the TRD pros. first off they said since its a "rare" model they cant negotiate at all. ( has any one heard this before, curious?) secondly i put a deposit (which is refundable) and didnt notice till days after that on the forum of the breakdown of the pricing the price jacked up to 47,200. i went in and said where did this random 2000 come from? he said oh its a trd pro so we sell them for 2-3 above MSRP because of the equiptment and options and because there not made in bulk. so i said to him thats false, the trd pros MSRP is already raised from the trim below it for that reason. so tell me where this 2 grand came from. and he just said the same thing and said he thought his manager spoke to me about this extra 2 thousand earlier and apologized. so i ask 2 things : has any one ever heard of dealers not negotiation at all just cuz its a trd pro, and second is this 2 grand he randomly tried to sneak in total bullshit? im only 21 so i think hes trying to take advantage of me

 

Shop around for a better deal

 

Walk away and find a better deal.................

 

Tell em to fk off because you found a TRD pro for 45k somewhere else and you are going to that dealer, you will see how fast they match the price.

 

Sad, but the reality of it is they are probably trying to take advantage of you because of your age.

Walk out and let them know they can't.

i had one dealer offer me 5k over, one 2k over, for a Pro about 2 years back. i said no and walked, and they continued to call me back trying to bring me back to their shop at the same marked up price. nope.

because i planned ahead and originally cast a wide net, i eventually got the first MT Pro delivered in Texas and i got it at MSRP. be firm and clear and you can't get jacked around.

 

Yeah. I had some 25 y/o punk at Culver Toyota try that shit on me on a standard TRD OR. Your dealer, or at least that sales person is an idiot. Any dealer can sell at any price they WANT to anytime, but if a particular model is in short supply and they can sell all they can get at a premium, then why would they want to discount. Personally, I went through Costco and got a great price with no haggling from a different dealer. If you're not a member it might pay to become one.

 

Walk away like everyone said!! You'll save yourself some $$ if you do, something else will come up!!

 

One, he's fucking you. Two, this may be the experience and/or beer talking but why are you looking at a loaded, $45k truck at 21? An Off-Road will do anything a Pro will do at $10k less than that and if it doesn't, you can get way more for that money via aftermarket.

The Pro is pretty much either a status thing or someone who wants exactly that much capability without dealing with aftermarket. Honestly, both require financial stability and neither of those should apply at 21 unless you're basically the 1% of 21 year olds that have their shit together that well. Don't make the mistake of financing a $750 a month note for a truck that doesn't make you money if you aren't.

 

Have to agree with the above too, an OR will give you the same capabilities while saving you 10k, and you can always upgrade it's looks for a fraction of the price.

 

I dunno. I realize that at 35 perspective is different but if I were shitting cash at 21, I'd go straight for financial independence level investments and then go ham. If OP is sitting on the ~$1M plus required to be there, that's fantastic and good for them, but i'm willing to bet it's not the case. This is all inebriated advice at the moment and while anyone my age will confirm, we all did stupid shit when we were younger. I mean I'm in debt up to my fucking eyeballs for an MBA I'm not utilizing so I'm no saint here.

 

They are jacking you.

But taking on that kind of debt at 21 is risky business for your future.

Consider finding a great condition unit at 1/3 that price.

Believe it or not this is standard procedure for TRD Pros (at least in CA). They typically mark them up as much as $5k here. You can find them for MSRP in some areas but you will rarely find them for under MSRP.

 

They are definitely taking advantage of the situation. Walk away.

To know what I know now at the age of 55 and only be 21 years old!!! I would have the world at my feet!!

 

Go buy one somewhere else. Then drive back to this dealership and tell em to suck it

 

If you want a Pro get a Pro. Your financial status is none of our business. Getting a decent price for a Pro is all about location location location.

Please don’t say you are in the service also. Dealers are eating those poor guys alive, and its criminal that the servicemember consumer protection laws have been voided recently.

And If they try to sell you gap insurance for anything over 30 bucks, RUN!! Then when you do get a car, buy your gap insurance from your regular insurance carrier, not a private one that the dealer sells.

 

He's screwing ya for sure. Get out of there and go buy one from a respectable salesman somewhere else...
