I have a 2016 Tacoma TRD off road. I read in the manual that this truck had an event data recorder (black box). I'm wondering if anyone knows how to disable this. I'm a big fan of my privacy, and if this is my truck, I should be able to make any changes that I want. I'm hoping maybe a fuse can be taken out, or a connection. Hope someone has some insight. I read an older post here from 2006, but there was no real information. Thanks to anyone that can assist.

Not that I'm aware of any way to disable it. Maybe unplug the ecu.

Without looking at the Schematics I would bet it is tied into the ECM which means to disable it you might have to go inside the ECM. As this would need to see the speed and brake application just before the air bags triggered .

Your giving away more info if you have a smart phone.

I am guessing you don`t have one of those

Just a thought but if your putting any type of data recorder in a vehicle your going to make it very hard to disable or disconnect

No matter how you try it is going to get expensive .

My comment was for the OP, sorry for the confusion.

Actually, information is transmitted. See page 9 of the 2018 Tacoma Owners Manual.

I seriously dislike this too. Companies are looking to obtain all kinds of crap. I realize my computer and phone are worse at this, but I still hate the prolific nature of this type of intrusion.
