New here...just looking for spark plugs and wires for a used taco I just picked up with 116k. Looking at NGK plugs, probably just standard copper or Vs (open to recommendations though) and can find these at many parts places. I'm having trouble/confusion finding wires. Local part stores like Auto Zone don't seem to list or handle wires for this truck, or maybe they are listed other ways. Online I do find a number of different NGK wires, like HE 53, HE 64, ZE 80, some of these listed for other honda/mazda/suburu but say they fit 2.L tacoma, some have 5th coil wire, some not. Are they all the same or what? Just need to know what to get, was assuming NGK makes wires for this truck too. Again, open to recommendations as to what and where to get. Thanks, newbie here...Rick

Don't you have coil packs? That's probably why they don't list spark plug wires for 01-04 2RZ cause there are none.

Hmmm? One link to wires but many/which ones. Second note coil pack vs. plug wires..what is difference and what do I need (see initial thread?..2003 2.L Tacoma) Thanks for guidance.

Before wasting anymore time searching, pop your hood and look. If you have a 2003 2.4L you shouldn't have plug wires, you should have coil packs (black boxes on top of the spark plugs). 2000 & below has plug wires.

Don't need to replace the coil packs unless you are having misfire issues or if maybe they are heavily corroded.

Thanks much...Yes I have coil packs, which I probably won't replace. But still not able to determine which of the NGK coil pack (with wire:) models is for the 2.4L.

    Hi Rick,

The original equipment part for the coil pack is
Denso 673-1304 Ignition Coil and can be purchased from various sources for between $45 and $80 a pop.
Unless you have a confirmed failure, these things are pretty bulletproof. My 2002 Tacoma with the same engine
has 226K miles on it and has never required that particular part.

Thanks for the info. What I wanted to know, but as you suggest, not planning on changing, probably just plugs for now. Any suggestions on those?
Since you have similar truck, ever have a problem with idle control valve, had a code, but really runs fine..takes about 30 secs to idle pretty smooth. Guidance always appreciated. Rick

Denso K16RU-11 I believe is the part number for the plugs on the 2.4 and 2.7.

    Hi Rick,

I bought a bunch of plugs over ten years ago and they are NGK BKR5EYA-11, Stock No. 2526. I am about to change the last set of them before a trip from TN to TX and back but in the future, I will probably go with the newer Iridium plugs, which are NGK 5464 BKR5EIX-11 Iridium IX Stock Number 5464.
    https://www.amazon.com/NGK-5464-BKR...=B003BUCKQ8&psc=1&refRID=2SS44042CQGWJXE55F33
The plugs are supposed to be gapped at the factory (though I always check to be sure) and the newer NGK plugs supposedly do not require anti-sieze application. My Tacoma does run well but it has lost some of its power due to age. I fully expect to get 300K before spending tons of money on it other than routine
maintenance. By the way, two of the plugs are easy to access but you need to remove the plumbing to the throttle body to access the other two, if my addled memory serves me well. Best of luck with your Tacoma.
