I hope this isn’t too stupid a question, but, does powder coating protect both the outside and the inside of sliders from rusting? Is protecting the insides even necessay? I was thinking of 100% bolt on sliders for 2016 taco DCSB.

The inside of the sliders should be sealed off. No powder coat will touch the inside.

Better to prime and spray paint sliders to the color you want. Any damage to the powder coat wont look right if you spray it. But you can touch up spray painted sliders with more spray paint and it looks great again

As stated, the PC will only touch the outside. The inside will be completely sealed off and should not need any sort of coating. PC is a great coating option and would definitely recommend it. Very easy to touch up with some satin black spray paint.

PC is durable for everyday use but if you plan on using sliders for their intended purpose then go with rattle can. Also they should be fully welded and air tight so rust in the tube work is a non issue.

Agreed, powder coat on steel is really difficult and often doesn’t last, you can paint them yourself then touch them up as you go. However, powder coat sticks to aluminum really well.

Clean bare metal first with acetone,

Prime with self etching metal primer

    Paint with bed liner

Looks and feels like powder coat, and is easy to touch up, especially after driving on gravel roads- they take off any coating.

Hawaii - yup, go with paint, I think you will tend to have bubbles and chipping off powder coat in that climate.

powder coat is one of the most durable finishes on steel. It NEEDS to be sandblasted before hand. A lot of shops cut corners and skip that and do some kind of chemical bath. You get what you pay for. The wake board tower on my parents skiboat is over 15 years old and looks like it came straight out of the oven still. The Transom mount on their fishing boat which didn't get sandblasted started chipping in 6 months. The bumper on my jeep which was blasted looked new to the day I sold it and held up against rock-chips, getting buried in sand, hitting a fence, and having d-rings in full time slapping around. For aluminum anodizing is the way to go.

Thank you everyone, I knew I would get great comments from the TW crowd. It is good to know that I only need to worry about the exterior of the sliders. Now I just have to save up a bit of $$$$.
