It hasn't screamed yet. I usually get some random false alerts every other week in city driving so we'll see if it has any issues. I drive pretty fast so I'll test out the tailgating capabilities too. :D

Saw another silver 3rd gen with this grill over weekend. Almost the exact same setup as my truck. Had to give a little hat tip to him. :D

So far, no radar issues but I'm not sure it's aimed correctly.

I've had this for close to 6 months now, no issues with the radar - at all. It's worked correctly for the adaptive cruise control, as well as with the forward collision detection. I would not expect issues with this grille if you are going from stock to this.

Well, I usually get one or two alerts during the week (false alerts as well as real ones) but I haven't gotten anything so far. Doesn't really bother me too much because I pay attention to what I'm doing.

Does the adaptive cruise control work like it should? That would be a good indicator if it's calibrated correctly or not.

Haven't tried that yet. Traffic around Orlando doesn't lend well to cruise control. I'll have to try on the weekend.

Gotcha. If it's really slow going there, that might be why you're not seeing any alerts. From what I recall, there's a speed threshold for some of the features.

I'm usually travelling fast enough for the alerts (32+ I think) but we have a lot of bad drivers that slam on their brakes or turn into my lane so I stay on my toes more than my cruise control.
I randomly get the alerts from cars that are parallel parked on the side but it's only been a week so that's ok. I've only had one situation where someone braked hard last week and it didn't go off, but I was pretty quick on my braking. I'll give it more time for testing. If the thing never alerts me ever again, I'm good with that too. It's more of a backup plan than something I rely on.

If it was doing that prior to the swap, then it might not have been calibrated correctly from the factory.

If this is a new issue since the grill swap then I would double check how the sensor is seated in the bracket, and then also verify the yaw / pitch / roll of the bracket to the mesh grill and stock grill. It it's aimed straight out, exact center and level then I'm not sure why it would be having those issues.

I have not had any issues with my active cruise since installing my grill.
Also, be sure that the cruise control setting you are in is "with radar". I have found, (from the 3rd gen tips and tricks page), that you can easily turn on cruise control without the radar. This is now how I drive most of the time and only use responsive cruise control on the turnpike or heavily trafficked freeways. That is where it seems most useful to me.
Basically you just hold in the cruise control "on" button for about 1 1/2 seconds and the old-fashioned cruise we are used to is initiated. If you only tap the "on" button you get the new improved Toyota Active radar cruise control. The "cruise control set" icon in the center of the dash board will be different depending on which one you have activated.

Radar seems to work. It's keeping a very painful 6 car lengths in cruise. I had an F250 move in and hit his brakes and I'm not sure it caught that because I braked pretty quick, but it seems to be working.

At maximum setting , Mine stays right at the 2 second rule. that distance decreases proportionally as the range setting is adjusted.
I would say at 65 -70 MPH 6 cars lengths is about right, (1 car length per 10 MPH).

I've never used the adaptive cruise before so I'm not sure what's normal, but from what you are saying it seems like everything is working. I did take the sensitivity all the way down, hoping it would close the gap a little but it didn't. I'll definitely use it on longer trips but I don't want to rely on radar with these crazy FL drivers.

Installation video looks pretty easy. You have to use the Goop correct? There is no portion where it the mesh grilled is plug and play?

That's his process. It comes pre-installed in a Toyota OEM surround so all you have to do is take off the grill, remove the old grill and pop in the new one. No gluing needed. It's a really nice grill. Install was easy.
Pro tip: There are a bunch of small screws holding the old grill in place. Remove all of those and then carefully pry the tabs out. I broke a few tabs because I didn't realize there were screws in there.

Thanks for the tips. Also glad you understood after my autocorrect post came out all jacked up. Grille is sweet.

@necrodiety is right, it's already assembled and just a simple plug n play.

As for the video, asking if the grills need to be gooped or if they come pre-assembled has to be one of the top questions I get emails and calls on.

I'm just asking for some general feedback here as to why this is so common? Is there a better way that I can effectively communicate that the 2018's are pre-assembled?

    - The very first thing I mention when the mesh is shown in the video (at ~ 36 seconds in) is that it's preassembled.
    - On our website the first sentence in each of the 4 item descriptions is "This mesh grill for a 2018 Toyota Tacoma comes pre-assembled on a bezel that will replace the inner portion of your factory grill and includes a TSS sensor relocation bracket."
    - Recently I added at the top of the page on our website an image that is a diagram of the grill and has written as large as I can "Preassembled Grill"

I can trim the "making of" portion of the video out if that's where the confusion comes into play. I hesitate to do that though, in the past with other vehicle communities, I've taken criticism for not showing every step.

Honestly, I watched the video on mute while in a conference room. That was my bad.
