In Md I used a climber to go up the tree, I never really measured the height but I figured it was about 15-20Ft? The way my climber was set up, I had it pitched high at the bottom/base of the tree and when the stand leveled out thats when I stopped. Yes I wear a harness in a climber.

Tie a knot every foot in the line you pull your bow up with and you’re always know where you were.

Yeah that’s my method for climbing too. I try and pick trees that not as tapered to avoid it not being even once you go from the bottom up. Sometimes they taper quickly and what was tight at the bottom isn’t sitting right. Yeah I always work my harness belt as I got up also.

I should start doing that. I don't hook my harness until I get climbed up. It's stupid, but I have been doing it that way for 25 years. What kind of climbers does everyone use. I have an API Bowhunter I have used for 20 years. I absolutely love it but as I get older, I think it has started to gain weight. I wish it weighed about 5 pounds!

I use an X-stand. It was pretty light weight.

I have one of those also. It is a pretty neat design how it locks on the tree until you get up there to put your crank strap and chain on.

I have the Summit Viper SD. Had it for plenty of seasons and love it. It packs up well and isn’t too heavy.

The reason I wear my harness the whole way up is because when I had a cheaper crappy climber the bottom slid down as I was getting up the tree! That was a scary situation. I made it out alive though thankfully!

I think the X-Stand climbers weigh like 11 pounds or something crazy light. May check it out.

Had that happen too. Now I bungee cord around the back of my heels and unless the cord breaks, you can't shake the platform loose. My friends son has an XStand climber and loves it. His dad has a 20+ year old Loggy and hugs the tree to climb. I did that for a few years but it eats up your sleeves and will wear your ass out in a hurry. We use to carry in just a platform, hug the tree and climb up, pull up your bow and then just stand there. No bow holder or anything. That's not what I call the good ole days.

i have a summit and a lone wolf both are pretty lite if im hiking in a long way i usually bring the lone wolf. you can't beat the summit for comfort for an all day sit. i usually wind up snoozing for a bit
