I'm planning a trip down the Oregon coast in August. Two adults two kids in a DCLB taco. Ideally we want to alternate between staying in a hotel and tent camping. Looking for any suggestions on camping that's not at a state park. Drive up an old logging road type of places. Thanks

The area around Alsea has a lot of logging roads worth exploring.

Same here - parents took me there when I was young, and I really enjoyed taking my own kids. We've been a few times, and I hate camping in numbered spots - Honeyman being the exception. There used to be a nice place just down the highway that had a dunes tour in a converted school bus as well as putt-putt and a small stocked fishing pond. Sadly that place has really gone to the dogs, so last trip we took one of the high-speed dune tours and had a blast, certainly worth the money.

Not sure if you've gone or not, but out of Lincoln City, you can run up the Siletz River and find some pretty good spots up there. And if you don't find something out of the way, then Moonshine Park is pretty cool. It's a state run campground, but pretty good fishing and swimming holes in the river.

Beverly Beach is a forested campground that's right at the shore. It's a state park but it's really nice and not overly crowded.
