Sorry if this is a dumb question - I did a search, but nothing quite matched what I need. Just bought new wheels and tires from Tirerack. They put in new TPMS sensors in all four wheels and made it sound like I could breeze into any tire store or dealer and get them "registered" to the truck. I called two local tire dealers and they seemed mystified as to what I was asking and to bring it in. I called my local Toyota dealer and they said they could do it for $180. Then he asked if I had the registration numbers. I do not. He said if they hooked it up to the laptop and it didn't read them, they would need to unmount the tires, read the numbers and that would be $280. Tirerack says they do not record the registration numbers.

I figure someone here actually knows what they are talking about and can be trusted.

A tire shop should be able read the codes from each wheel. At a minimum they can write them down if they can't program the computer with the new codes. The dealer is on crack charging that much for 15 minutes worth of work. Are you sure there aren't any stickers on the inside of the rims with the codes? I got my rims from Discount Tire Direct and the codes were on them. I bought the TechStream cable from eBay and can program them if you're near CT. All for the cost of a beer...

Thanks man, I used to live in CT back in early 2000s! Out in the woods outside Danbury. I miss Squantz Pond. Oh well....

I looked and nothing in the wheels or packaging had the codes. Called Tirerack and they said they don't record or write them down. Maybe next time I go Discount for that. Yea, this dealer is the one closest to my house, but I'll try the other dealer where I actually bought the truck (certified used) where they seem a little more ethical. Almost wanted to say something like, "With that kind of price, you can forget about me taking my truck to your for service you greedy..."
