why the other guy sold it?

I've fixed (mostly had fixed ) several things on my 1st gen since I got
it a few months ago... the seller installed CV joints and lower ball joints from O'Reillys
right before I bought it, and I had a OEM steering rack and bushings and tie rods installed
at Southeast Overland in Seneca SC . The steering went from disappointing to
pretty darn good.

I just got back from Action Automotive in Westminster SC with a much thinner
wallet -



The knob on the dashboard that controlled the ducts/vents was a no-op and
air conditioning condensate came out in the cab despite me unplugging the
drain under the hood numerous times. I'm imagining how awful it would
be in the winter not to be able to direct hot air up on the windshield.

I don't really know why the previous owner got rid of my truck, but I wouldn't
be surprised if bad steering and a non-functional dashboard had a lot to do
with it.

Not shown on the bill, they also rotated and balanced, which took some
shimmy out of the steering wheel...

They ordered the heater box from a dealer (and paid retail) and my truck was there
for over a week. Numerous people asked them to ask me if I'd sell it while it was
there. People like these trucks.

I learned about both of these shops that I've used here on this board. I was able to
talk at length with the mechanics at both places and I'm real glad to know about
them.

90 bucks for a TPS and 60 to install?????? I was in the wrong business.

 

The TPS is (I think) not even OEM, and I don't have a clue about how hard
it was to install. But I didn't have to diagnose it, or fix it, (it is better that way )
and I have high confidence in the guy who did all the work. I think good shops have to
make money to exist.

I had my TPS go bad last year. I stopped at O'reillys or Autozone, and had the code pulled. Then I ordered a Toyota factory part from an Ebay vendor. $29 shipped to my house, it took all of 5 mins to replace, and it arrived 2 or 3 days later.

Yes, I did buy the O'reillys/Autozone part that night, and installed the following morning. As soon as the factory part arrived, I swapped it out, and returned it. Not the most ethical thing, but GOD knows I spend a fortune yearly at those car stores!

 

TPS also has be adjusted if its aftermarket

 

Bought a Denzo oxygen sensor on Amazon for $85 recently I think.

 

I looked to see how to install the throttle positioning sensor...



I'm glad I didn't have to screw around with this rusty old muffler... (I do think my frame
is not rusty)...


Oh well... the stuff is fixed...

Dude not bashing you but what you did is considered fruad basically you are renting it. If you did a supposed “crime” I just wouldn’t mention it, people are not gonna turn you in here but don’t implicate yourself fwiw. Nice truck glad it’s fixed.

 

Fraud over a $40 part? Who's gonna charge me with it? Trust me, not only I'm not afraid to post it, I have not lost any sleep over it.

 

It's not fraud lol...he returned the part according to their return policy. He wasn't happy with it after comparing it to another part so he returned it, they accepted the return and everyone lives to fight another day. I don't see how that's fraud.

Some may find it ethically our morally borderline but that's certainly not fraud...

What is wrong with returning a part that is inferior to an OEM one? This isn't fraud and it isn't unethical. If a product is unacceptable, then returning the POS is the right thing to do. In fact, it helps the buyers because the supplier will either make a better part or get out of the business.

 

I agree with you just saying that calling it unethical makes more sense to me (even though I disagree) than calling it fraud. At least ethics is a matter of opinion, fraud is an actual crime

 

It has been a couple of days. I've driven the truck around some. I'm happy
that the check engine light is off. But more than that, and I didn't really
think about it, but I believe the truck runs better... I guess the sensors
supply data to whatever passes for a computer on a 2002 vehicle and
now that the data is more accurate, the computer is doing its job
better?

Not in your head, it's true that a vehicle will perform poorly when the CEL is on...if it was receiving incorrect info from a bad sensor then it would definitely ride poorly. Glad it's healthy again
