Okay basically I need everyones help. I have a buddy who is considering buying a 2004 Ford F-250 or a 2000 F-350 turbo diesel. He is into dirtbiking and wants to be able to have a truck for them. his good friend is a ford tech and is trying to convince him to buy a ford truck. We all know that is suicide mission. I need everyone's help to just get as many comments on here as possible from people who have owned fords or know a ton of unbiased reasons why Tacoma's are the best. Although if you do feel fords or other trucks are really nice, share why. I have really only owned Tacoma's and i would love for some people with other experience to help me out here.

Edit. He wants to eventually maybe buy snowmobiles or even have a small camper so ideally I think a tundra would be best. If he is looking for an enough power to tow and everything else.

I would absolutely NOT get the ford if it's one of the 04s with the 6.0 because they are money pits and lots of time in the shop. Go with a first gen Tundra, or heck even a 7.3 F250. Anything but the 6.0. My dad owns one so this is personal experience speaking.

Best “truck” is so subjective to every potential buyer on use/wants. It’s a never ending battle.
I went with a Tacoma from a full size Nissan cause I dont need that much truck.
    1) resale/reliability
    2) availability of getting parts an ease of maintenance.
    3) looks an capabilities off-road while I’ve also owned a frontier which had more power an solid boxed frame the yota is just a better built truck in my opinion.
That 04 would have the 6.0 powerstroke I believe which is a notorious bad motor with the head studs an egr valves. If all he is using it for to transport his dirtbike to an from the trails an perhaps some home projects taco would be perfect I’d recommend the longbed unless it’s trailered. It’ll ride better An gets better mileage easier to maneuver. Cheaper to maintain than the diesel, which all diesels are stupid expensive to repair. If the Tacoma is to small sell him on a tundra.

Issue is in 2004 all the motors were problematic... 6.0 diesel had its EGR cooler issues, and both the 5.4 and 6.8 gas motors have the spark plug issue.

Other than that though, I'd probably get the Ford.
Cheaper than the Tacoma, larger, and probably other benefits though. Especially at this point in my life - pursuing a landscaping truck. But that's just me.

Best truck is extremely subjective. I loved my Tacomas when I had them, but I wanted to be able to hook up a full-size heavy duty plow and haul a bed full of wood without bottoming the springs, so now I've got a 3/4 ton instead.
If all he's doing is hauling dirtbikes then an F250 is like hammering finish nails with a 12lb sledge. A Tacoma would be a much better option. Better ride, better gas mileage, and honestly a 14 year old F250 isn't what I'd call a reliable truck. The 6.0 and the 5.4 were both lousy motors. The 6.0 has a ton of problems, and the 5.4 has a reputation for punting spark plugs through the heads every so often when it gets bored with running properly (not to mention that it doesn't have enough power to lug around a big lump like an F250)

85% of Fords are still on the road today. The other 15% made it home.

Seriously though, as far as Brands go, there is no worst brand. They've all made a turd here and there. The particular Ford you are talking about has a problematic engine that if it hasn't, it will try to destroy itself unless it is bulletproofed. If it is bullet proofed, then it will run forever.

If he wants a F-250 and you try to convince him to buy a Tacoma it is not really a apples to apples comparison.
    However,
I work for a construction company. We have a fleet of trucks. Almost all employees drive trucks for personal vehicles also, so there are lots of data available for comparison.
Dodges/Rams are least reliable. Hands down. We don't have any in the fleet anymore. Personal vehicle owners buy extended warranties and trade them before the warranties run out. Blows my mind why they stick to RAM brand. From talking to them mostly because the Chrysler warranties are good. Go figure....
Chevy and Ford are about the same when it comes to reliability. Not very consistent. Some trucks of both brands go 100,000 miles with no issues, others are in the shop all the time.
The only truck here with over 250,000 miles and no problems is a co-worker's personal Tundra. Company is based out of Michigan so no way the Company will ever own Toyota trucks. Lot of Detroit fans.
