What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

It's hard not to lean on that when getting into the truck...mine has indentations from my elbows from doing that as well

True that. Didn't even know mine was cracked until I took it off. Wasn't planning on buying a new one cause they're expensive. Just happened to come across one brand new for half the price so figured why not.

Tossed in a new bearing after work

 

How easy is this? Ive had a mysterious noise lately and the symptoms point to the carrier.

 

This took all of 10 minutes.

 

Just came home to these.

 

Installed my new front differential with 4:88 gears, pretty easy going back in with the help of my daughter. Also installed new front bushings and bump stops. Along with a tire rotation.
Still need to install the front drive line and put my skid plates back on. But it will be nice to drive it to work tomorrow.

 

Make sure that “center zerk” Cardan joint is getting greased! There are three zerk fitting on the Cardan joint,
And slip yoke zerk

 

Ive greased those to the point of them slinging grease all over the bottom of my truck. Its either the pinion angle or the bearing is just going out. But I find that hard to believe at 63k. I may try axle shims first.

Drove it around now that it's a manual 4x4 pre runner

 

Careful, if you over grease them it can ruin them as well. I did that too to where it slung grease all over and my mechanic told me it was way too much, can hurt it that way

 

Found some 3rd gen TRD OR wheels, they look GOOD on the red 1st gen

 

Great... I wont grease them again for a while. Thanks for the heads up. Ill get the driveline looked at sometime in the near future.

He told me a just a few pumps but I've read before that you go until it starts to ooze out. I think that over time I over-greased it by doing it too frequently. Didn't hurt anything in my case but when he saw the mess under my truck from the grease getting flung all over he told me it was too much.

 

I'm sure you're fine it's common to see that happen, just don't want to overdo it too often.

 

When you over fill slip yoke, the grease takes up the space inside the driveshaft where the yoke is supposed to slide into. Air compresses, grease doesn't, so it is now acting more like a solid driveshaft.
