So... posted this on Facebook to which I received no help. I have a 2017 TRD Sport w/ the 3.5L and manual trans. Here's what happens - and it's so random. As a service manager at a dealership (*non Toyota), I know what to expect and how to try to find shit wrong but here goes... there is/are...
    • No patterns
    • No speeds
    • No temps
    • No gears
    • No loads
that affect this noise. The noise is, randomly, while driving a metal on metal clanking rattle type noise from somewhere in the front of the drivetrain. Engine or trans, not sure. It sounds like if I were to come to a stop without putting the truck in neutral you get that sputtery metal "Crap I'm going to stall out" noise but it happens randomly. Examples:

I hear it at 39-42 mph in 4th or 5th gear, 65-75 mph in 6th gear, while coasting with LIGHT pedal application... sometimes harder acceleration from 2-3 makes it happen. It's so infrequent that I cannot describe it to a technician or even duplicate it. Completely random. And it's pissing me off. Some days it doesn't do it. Other days it does it 6 or 7 times in 25 miles.

Anyone else experience this? I have recorded a sound file of it. The phone (LG V20) was sitting in the console on the charging pad just recording. I cut the clip down to 5 seconds, and right between 4-5 seconds you can hear it but with the tires it's noisy... so it's hard to hear it. I used Audacity to deaden the road noise a bit... hope this works. It's right at the end. Nasty little noise. Help?!?!?

Had to ZIP the WAV file... lovely.
