Ok I will check the TSB. I wasn't aware that there was one for the leaf springs. Thanks for the good information.

I also had my service guy bring in the technician when I went in. I showed him the MT numbers in the configuration section and that it is available to update. He said "Oh I didn't read back that far, I just saw it said AT" so we agreed that it will be done at my next appointment, which should be this week!

If anyone here is also in Tucson it was Precision Toyota on Wetmore Rd that did it for me.

Well, it looks like my next trip to Tucson is going to be on 9/1. Anyone in the Phoenix area that wants to meet at AZ Mill on my way past I'm happy to help get this accomplished for them. Probably could get there from where I am around 10:30AM or so.

Took my truck in Wednesday for rear end howling, clutch creaking, weeping diff and ecu update. I just picked the truck up this morning. Here's my take on each....

The rear end howling is not completely gone, which others have stated but it is significantly better. I can only get it to howl around 60 to 62 and even then, is very faint. Check box for satisfied.

They replaced all clutch components and it "felt" different at first almost as if it's lighter. There is much less resistance to initially push in the clutch but the binding point is in thr similar position as previously. Will take a little getting used to but I like it, blasted heat on the way home and could not get it to creak but only time will tell.

I guess the technician ran into a 'hiccup' when working on the 3rd member weeping and had to call Corp to get a resolution but he was not in when I came to pick it up Today and my SA didn't want to misquote it so he didn't say. So I will call Monday morning and speak with him regarding it. Update to follow...

As far as ecu update goes, he told me he would update it for me but not put it on the invoice since it says AT only and didn't want to get burned on it. I have no idea if he did it or forgot (I'll ask him Monday as well) but from my drive home experience, the power band delivery seems a little smoother. I didn't have that 3500rpm jolt like I used to when flooring it. The 2-3k band seems to work better in 2nd gear. But then again I really didn't have much complaints previously so this could all be placebo and I'm full of shit...lol anyways just thought I'd update you guys on the service.

Thank you Ruggybuggy and Tacoma world! Less rev hang and improved throttle response makes me not have to “think” about shifting! This was my only complaint about my truck. Only have 8 miles on the new flash but is noticeably better especially pulling out into traffic going from 1-2. Awesome. Well worth the price of the tactrix.

Took a bit of convincing to get this done on mine at the dealership. Mainly the tech didn't want to be liable so they put in that the customer, me, requested update regardless of any problems it may cause.

Words to describe the drive and shifts on the way home: butter, Smoove, delicious, bonerific

It should have been this way day one but I'm totally happy that it is finally better.

I flashed without any problem by clicking on the file and ran the flash without opening T.S. however after the flash I opened T.S. to see if I could change some things, i.e. seatbelt chime, and when I tried to get techstream to hook up to the vehicle T.S. gave me an error saying that a connection could not be found. This might be a question for another thread but thought since there is a lot of knowledge here on T.S. that I would throw it out there.

I also logged a complaint with Toyota Customer Service using this link:https://www.toyota.com/support/contact-us as carcinoid did. I attached a link to this thread as well as highlighted the calibrations for the manual transmission models on page 3 of T-SB-0058-18. They actually called me back and I spoke with someone who seemed knowledgeable. They told me to take my truck to my dealer and if they had any reservations about updating the ECU to reference my case number and call them.

I would suggest others do the same - the more complaints they get, the better chance we have at getting the wording of the service bulletin revised and saving us all headaches, time and money.

That gives me hope that they may reword the TSB someday in the future.

Decided to go to a local lake, and passed a little.trail/wash along the way. Decided to hit it on the way back. With the update my truck no longer bogs terribly bad in the sand. It'll still bog a bit, but that's just expected in sand. Prior to the update it was severely unenjoyable to drive in sand and royally sucked, especially when the RPMs would dive. I didn't need 4low this time. Climbing hills is still a bit tricky because there's NO Low end on our trucks, but 4 low And some fancy foot work gets the job done.

Do you have 4.88s in? Makes a huge difference on hills especially if you are on larger tires.

Now that I have gears, ECU update, and a Volant intake the truck drives pretty damn nice.

just got back my truck. service dept said they were able to replicate the surge but that the TSB didn't apply to my vehicle (although I did note to them that the first page says AT but has MT information in the later pages). they did say they opened a case with Toyota and wanted to talk to them first on Monday before proceeding with anything. they sounded positive it would get resolved.

Who the hell they think they are? Metallica?

Cides, won't be Toyota, they manufacture vehicles and looming machines, not software. TS would be a different vendor.

Did you find the drop down to find usb open port 2.0? I couldn't connect either until I found that option in tech stream

Took my truck in yesterday for the 20k service. Requested a health check and told the service advisor I would pay for the update if available. 3 hours later my truck was ready and he said no update was available. I was questioned as to where I found out about an update so I mentioned the forum and he said sorry it didn't pop up during the check.

I'll be going back in a few weeks for the blower motor recall. Maybe the TSB will be updated by then, if not I plan to offer the same deal and see if they bite this time.

I really don't get why they are so reluctant to do this update. It is such a simple thing to do...
