    Does the sub have a level controller or "gain" setting? All amps have a gain setting used to get specific voltage and varies based on the voltage of preouts to the amp from head unit and the impedance of your speakers. THIS IS NOT A VOLUME KNOB! Setting it too high will cause amp clipping, overheating, distortion, and speaker and/or amp damage. Amp level controllers are usally rated in db and have wired remotes for control from the fornt.

    Level is a gain knob. See how the units are in volts? You match that to your input voltage.

    That amp is a bit much for that sub, I really like my JL 250/1

    I don't plan on cranking it to the max, so I won't be overpowering the sub.

    I was thinking more about the $$$ difference, but if you ever want to upgrade your sub later that kenwood would be a decent choice and at low volume should sound nice with that sub
