Yeah, I dunno... They're cool, don't get me wrong, but at a certain point you're more of a passenger than a driver. It's like crawl control, the truck ends up doing most of the work, and what's the fun in that?

And yes, I know, I drive an auto, which means the truck does most (some) of the shifting, so I'm a giant hypocrite.. lol

Downhill, I just have it in first gear and use the brakes, if it feels like its going to stall from too low of engine rpm i push in the clutch and use the brakes.

Climbing, just get off the brakes and clutch and go. Sometimes use the handbrake to stop rolling back if its really steep.

Don't think I have ever stalled in 4lo.

    You are absolutely correct.
I don't think anyone here is claiming that manual is "better" than an automatic, rather just a preference in their driving style.
We can probably agree that each person chooses his transmission of choice is for a reason. :mudding:
We could also agree that there are folks that can drive just about anything, just about anywhere regardless of what kind of transmission is under him.
And then there are some that can't drive off road at all with either transmission, and tend to cruise the mall instead just looking the part.

Then there are those who can't even drive on the road, lol...

There's a sweet spot on the clutch that can hold the truck without gas or brake. Find it.

Totally off topic, but I want to see someone take the drivetrain from a Model-X (or similar) and adapt it for off road (not the kind of "off-road" Tesla advertises, lol).

Infinite torque at zero rpm, no clutches needed. Hell, you could put a motor on each wheel with portal gearing, the traction, gearing, and ground clearance would be amazing! Make it a hybrid, but like a real hybrid with a little diesel genny.

As awesome as that would be, I think the user would get bored too quick, due to not requiring any skill level to operate.

    Would it?

Or would it allow you to tackle harder obstacles?

I guess you could look at it that way.

I'm going to be one of those that will be stubborn to switch to electric. To me it's like going vegan just because its healthier. I'm not currently dying by eating meat, and round is a shape right?

Despite what they (vegans) tell you, going vegan is not any more or less "healthy" than meat eating. Our bodies have evolved to eat a mixture of meat and vegetable proteins. Just like with Cross Fit, vegans like to tell you about how their life choices are better than yours, regardless if you asked them or not.

I'm stubborn, too. I have yet to go electric (or even hybrid) even for a daily driver/commuter, even though that's where the technology is most advantageous at this point. Was all set to get the wife a hybrid a few years ago. We were at the dealer ready to pick up a 1yr old Civic hybrid, then the guy showed us the Corolla Eco. Only a few mpgs lower, but ~half the cost and not all the complex battery/motor stuff - seemed like a no brainer.
