I'm having an issue with my lug nuts. My steering felt loose and I had some vibrations so I torqued the nuts, thinking one or two might have backed off.

While doing this I noticed that even after torquing to 80 foot pounds the nut will turn 1/8" in either direction before encountering resistance. It's the strangest thing. It still requires 80 lbs of force to break the nut free when loosening.

I have the 4runner trail team wheels, but I reused my tacoma lug nuts when I installed them. The tacoma nuts are a little shorter than the 4runner nuts, but after putting them on I took one off and checked the inside and the tip of the stud wasn't coming into contact with the inside of the end of the nut, so I don't think the studs were bottoming out and preventing the nuts from squeezing the wheel on to the hub properly.

Any ideas? I have 30 000 KM on this setup and no issues up until now, but if it's a safety thing I will pick up some 4runner lugs. They are expensive from toyota however, and it will take time to find used ones. A couple of the nuts are a little swelled (hard to get socket onto them) so they should probably be swapped anyways.

Any suggestions for aftermarket lugs that are compatible with the 4runner wheels?

    cheers,
    Brian.
