Does anyone have any bag/case recommendations? I need a SMALL bag/case for my D7200. Ideally one that holds the body+lens (attached) but will settle for one that just holds the body. I'm headed to Hawaii on Sunday, and I need a way to bring my camera, without bringing the bulkier bag I have. I'm not checking a bag, hence the need for a small case. I'm taking 1 lens, and the camera. Something similar to this (click me). I don't think this Osprey one will fit. Also, ideally something from Amazon, so I can prime ship it in time.

Think I may go with one of these: https://www.amazon.com/Ape-Case-Com...09307&sr=8-9&keywords=compact+dslr+camera+bag

    https://www.amazon.com/MegaGear-Neo...09307&sr=8-7&keywords=compact+dslr+camera+bag

Might get the first one just for some extra added protection in there, I'm not always easy on my bags, especially after sitting at airports and on planes for 6 hours

I have a smaller camera but I use a GORUCK GR2 field pocket to carry my stuff. Fits right in my backpack. Probably better options and they’re pricey but it’s tough as nails and works well for me.

    https://www.goruck.com/padded-field-pocket-gr2/

I think they’re a good company and like their business model. Have two of their backpacks too. Both are great as well.

Looks nice, but don't want to spend that much. I ordered both of the ones I linked. Going to test fit them both, and send back whichever I don't keep. I just want something to keep the camera from picking up any scratches or getting banged around while on the flight. And also, will likely use it while going on hikes when I come back. Lighter and smaller the better.

Good plan. I’ve been thinking about getting something different since it’s a little tight if you don’t take the lens off but works fine for now. Plus it’s not like I actually take it out and photograph anything... :anonymous:

I didn't offer any advice because I carry a 24lb backpack with all my gear in it. If I'm going small I just carry the body and lens on a Blackrapid strap.

Just got my gear out again for the kids fall baseball. I have too much stuff. Probably more than 24 lbs. Two bodies, two flashes, six lenses, batteries, cords, gorilla pod, mono pod, filters, etc.

Well my 2 carry-on bags are going to contain my clothes for a 10-day trip, laptop, hiking shoes, and other shit. I need to conserve as much space as possible (i.e. everything is getting crammed the fuck in the bag and I don't want to damage the camera). But I do have Pre-Check so I don't gotta take anything out of my bags!

I feel left out not poking anyone, so...

    :boink: All of you.

Regarding photo gear, here’s the mods I did so I wouldn’t forget critical lighting equipment, tripod, monopod, etc.

Did you just buy extra Pick'n'Pluck foam from Pelican for under the seat?

Sorta, I ordered pre-cut foam blocks off of Amazon designed for a specific case.

    SRA Cases Pre-Scored 2 Piece Foam Block Insert For EN-AC-FY-A030 Case - 16.5 x 11 x 6 inches [Camera]

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071DWNL6Z/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I did need to put down a layer of foam ( salvaged from work ) to line the bottom since the cut sections go from top to bottom and getting the angle cut just right is a bit tricky. If you order the ones I did, you get two foam blocks, so you have an extra one just in case you really mess up. The outer edge of the blocks are not cut, which is actually beneficial for the three of the sides to guarantee protection from the edges. I found that leaving one layer of foam between each item was just fine and for the short items, I pulled the entire foam "stick" out ( they're like big french fries ) and cut them to the length I needed and stuck them back in ( i.e. the two Lume Cubes ).

Let me know if you have more questions. :)

Thanks! That looks like a whole lot cheaper of an option than the Pelican replacements. Did you stack the foam blocks? Or were you able to put them side by side?

It’s actually one piece with strips perforated like box lids or paper for easy separation. The second block I got was never touched.
