Are there any cheap dash cams that will fit in that Go Pro bracket thing on our windshields? Or how does that work? I've found some cheap cameras but not sure if I need an adaptor to fit in there. Thanks!

The only issue really is batteries and cases. There are Gopro knockoffs and then there are knock offs of the knock offs and there can be slight differences in battery dimensions. same goes for the cases/

I bought the above GoPro kit and the Aukey DR02 from Amazon when it was on sale. It was inexpensive and the picture quality is very good. I ran the wiring along the headliner then under the carpet into the 12V connector for power. I am pleased with it.

Just get a go pro. A Session is only $100 or so.

I tried going with this exact set up. The 3D printed mount didn't fit properly. The camera end was too small and the camera moved and rattled. The gopro mount end was a little too big and was very hard getting in and out of the mount. Luckily they refunded my money no questions asked.

I didn't use that system, but it was one I came across while looking for a GoPro mount solution. It seemed pretty simple so I just assumed it worked properly. The too tight fit would be easy to correct with a bit of emery cloth and there might be a way to build up the camera insert a little to make it tighter, but I see why that's an issue. Fortunately that 3d printed mount is inexpensive so even if they didn't refund, it's not going to break the bank.

Anyway, the little camera gets good reviews and there are plenty of places it can be mounted with the supplied stick up mount.

Yup, haven't gotten around to mount it but will soon. It's going to the left of the rear view mirror and wiring it through the left A pillar straight into the fuse box with their hardwire kit and a add-a-fuse.
