    Almost there. Page 40.

    @bladsville

    Plus this, uhhhh, checklist:

    This was me:

:anonymous: Don’t use hacked versions of Techstream for an ECU update.

:thumbsup:Don’t use a virtual machine environment to do an ECU update.

 Don’t use Bluetooth or WiFi dongles for an ECU update. (USB only)

:anonymous: Do turn off Windows update service.

:anonymous: Do turn off Windows system sleep functionality. Use the “always on” setting in power management pane.

I don't know? Do turn off USB power management for the USB port you’re using.

:anonymous:Do plug the laptop into a wall outlet. (but it is freshly charged and the update is very short)

:anonymous: Do hook up a battery maintainer to the vehicle during an ECU update.

 Do turn off all electrical consumers during ECU update.

    Open the hood.

I borrowed the cable. In the future, I will get a Tactrix cable. If you are serious, it seems like the best bet is going with the official one:

    https://www.tactrix.com/index.php?o...roduct_id=17&Itemid=53&redirected=1&Itemid=53

You don't need any of the Subby or Mitsu adapters.

One the big positive note, using that linked version of TechStream, you can do all the customizations that are in Carista for free (after you buy the cable). See attached.

So update to my post. The dealer came through! 2nd gear is usable now. I only put about 2 miles on it in traffic but I can already tell the difference.

    Woo-hoo!!

After they initially said “no update available” I was direct with them and pulled the TSB out of my pocket, with the config file highlighted. That lead to them offering a test drive, and luckily I was able to reproduce it. After that they changed their stance and asked a manager to run an update. The second time around they found the config file (matching the one I highlighted) but said it’s an “engine update, not the TSB, and it probably won’t change anything.” Regardless, they ran the update and 2nd gear is much smoother for me now. There’s still a bit more power at 3500 RPM, but it’s not the overly exaggerated VTECBRO that I felt before.

All in all, I’m a happy camper and would recommend Toyota of Westport in CT.

Well it kinda is! The update allows us to use our transmissions in ways we couldn't before.

    No?

    I tried. :)

    B+ for the effort? :D

I cannot exactly explain how the update made shifts smoother. With D4S, an ETB, VVTiW on the intake, and VVTi on the exhaust, plus direct ingition coil packs and sensors out the ying yang, it'd would take a deep dive to figure it out.

Edit: then I jump on my bike that is open loop with just a few sensors and will get perfect running most all the time and 50mpg when screwing around. That's me setting it up with a manometer, multimeter, and my ears and ass. Crazy.
