Sorry if this isn't the correct place to post this but it seemed like the best to me. I am planning on going to the Baja 1000 this year with my '18 Tacoma. I was wondering if anyone else is planning on going/what are some tips and tricks for the watching the race. Also, it would be cool to meet up with some other Toyota's down there and drink some Pacifico's!

I have never driven into Mexico from the US but I do believe it isn't too crazy as long as you have Mexican Auto Insurance.

This is my Tacoma which I'm taking down from Colorado (19hr drive)

Grab insurance in Calexico, last stop before you cross.

Have fun, stay out of the way!

Actually, you’ll probably cross thru San Diego into Mexico. Tijuana can be nuts.

If you can, the day prior is badass. All the trucks are lined up pre race. Fun to check out up close and personal.

Haven’t been in a while, but pops and I use to watch the 250 and 500 out of San Felipe.

My goal was to go for both tech days and watch the start! I can't wait to walk the line and check the trucks out.

    Hi radio4095!
I hope you have enjoyed my many Baja trip reports posted here over the years.

If I may... Mexican Auto Insurance can be purchased online and the policy printed out at your home, before you leave, for the days you will be in Baja... or more, just in case.
The company is www.BajaBound.com which is based in San Diego and they sell the top rated brands of Mexican insurance.

I am and have been producing a Baja California Road Guide for them and traveled over 13,000 miles the past two years researching for the guide. So, please feel free to ask any specific questions you did not get an answer to in my trip reports.

Also, I have raced in the Baja 1000 (once, in 1979) and have been a pit captain and assisted for pit teams at several Baja races (1978-2006). Find a location that is not on the outside of a turn and is upwind of the dust!

    Your truck looks awesome!
    Viva Baja!

I somehow miss your reports! Maybe I didn't search correctly but now I know what to look for! Thanks a TON for the info and links! I have secured camping at "Playa Saldamando" as it is right next to the beach and gated which gives me comfort since I might be a solo traveler. I will start reading up on your trips though!

Yes, the reports are right below this thread, in this forum. Numbered 1-7 in 2017 and the final one, #8 from a couple weeks ago. They pretty well cover all of the peninsula's main routes and most interesting side trips.

I just realized that #8 was not added yet, so now it is and here are the direct links to all 8 of my Baja Research Trips:

Sounds good, you'll have to visit down in SE Texas! I still visit from time to time, parents live in Calexico still.

I hope you have a super time. The course looks great this year, mixing the gulf coast, Pacific coast, desert, and mountain regions of this most fascinating peninsula!

Where are the trip reports from you TWers who went to the 1000?
My amigo Cameron Steele of Trail of Missions, Rip to Cabo, Baja HQ, and the Desert Assassins won in his Trophy Truck #16.
