    Hey, Folks.

I just removed the original pollen filter yesterday to clean the dust out after an epicly dusty trip. I was surprised to see that it really didn't seal to the box well and there was some dust that got past the filter. Not too bad, and none can be seen in the vent tubes.

I am just wandering if it is worth grabbing a K&N version? Does it have a rubber ring to seal better?

In the past, I was a K&N fan for intake air filters. Given all the advice here, I have not bought one for the Taco. This is one of the few cars that we owned that seems to have a big enough air box / filter.

    Thanks!

Where is it on the Taco? Does Toyota replace with at certain intervals with the extended warranty?

Thanks! Let me google that for you, right?

That Honda filter looks way better than ours and is similar to ones that I swapped in our other cars that had them.

I skimmed the video but will watch the whole thing later for the conclusions. I couldn't tell why he went away from the K&N.

It's behind an access panel on the front wall of the glove box.

I believe it gets swapped under ToyotaCare. The same, not-up-to-my-expectations filter would be going back in. They spent the money on the filter media to grab pollen, but didn't put a bead of rubber or silicone around the edge to actually seal it.

from what I was reading, people didn't like the K&N cabin filters. I guess they made the cabin smell like the K&N Oil, IDK just what I was reading a couple weeks ago since I just replaced mine with a Amazon cheap-o.

I never seemed to smell the oil on my other filters, but I can see that in a closed cab. Thanks!

Those do a good job of sealing? I'll snap a pick of what I found later.

The oil on the cabin filters isn't the same as the engine filters. I have the filter and it doesn't smell bad from factory or after you clean and re-oil it if you use the right oil. it seems to work well, I even put one in my wife's car.

    Hey Tony,
I treat my cabin filters just like I treat my return air filters in my home. You can buy (expensive) filters that filter out everything. But by doing so, you create a delta p and your airflow goes down and everything has to work a bit harder.
So, I buy the cheap filters, knowing that they won't filter everything, but filter good enough to keep my house or vehicle from getting too dusty too quickly. My .02

    Thanks!

In all honesty, 99% of the time, the Taco fan is on the lowest setting. I was just bothered by how much dust made it past the filter.

Our turbo cars seemed to really like the K&Ns with no ill affects including the MAFs, so high flow is always a good thing for me. Like you, I did the same in our force air furnaces. Small cheap filters were better and more economical that the expensive monsters.

I'll snag a pic of the Taco later.

I wouldn't pay the price premium for such a thing

i've actually made cabin filters for some cars by just cutting up a home return air filter, worked fine and got five or six for $10.

Psst, don't tell anyone, but I sometimes just take my filter out and blow it out with my air chuck and put it back in...:spy:

Haha! That is what I did last night.

It also helped me determine that my scuba tank is running low on air.

Hahaha! That'll do it. I did try and fail at converting my bicycles to tubeless. I might try again someday with better materials than a cut up tube and Slime.

Get this, I used to seat my motorcycle tires with a bicycle pump. After doing that for too many sets of tires (and sweating my balls off spooning on a couple 4x4s), I UPGRADED!!!! to a Slime Motosports pump. Thankfully after a few sets doing that, a friend was getting rid of his new 120cf scuba tank only because it needed hydro'ed.

Yeah, I paid in way more than a low rent HF compressor, but space is a massive problem, not to mention that this is great for wheeling on the cheap.

I'm also considering scuba lessons. That's been on the bucket list before I even had one.
