The overall ratio with the diff gearing is what makes the MTs lower. 4.88s in an AT is still higher geared than the stock MT.

Yeah. I will complain about the reverse ratio being way too high and that 6th could be higher, but the fact that we have the MT option trumps all else.

yes but it has a 3.9 rear diff vs the 4.30. the motor also doesn't make enough power at the low rpms to maintain 70 mph on the interstate in 5/6 gear in the auto. with the MT i can shift to 6th and cruise there pretty much all the time unless I'm in the mountains in which case I'll drop a gear or two and it still pulls well. With the auto, it'd run 4/5 gear just to maintain speed and saw 6th downhill. The auto was fine at <55 MPH but beyond that it sucked. the MT is MUCH better

It isn't that the manuals are worth a premium on the used market - it's that people who want them will snatch them up because owners tend to keep the things forever and they are already scarce compared to the autos anyway. I mean... there were 200 TRD Tacos on the dealer lot - I bought the only manual OR they had. Not because of color, or mud guards, or ... whatever the hell else makes one "slightly" different from the other. I bought it for the third pedal.

The guy who buys it from me will do the same.

I will have a quick sale without fighting over every last nickel.

I know, I waited 2 months for mine back in 2015 (no manuals on the lot, had to put in a order)....But people that prefer manuals over automatics are a dying breed. So I don't see that value holding true anymore.

From what ive seen on the used market 4x4 TRD Off Roads go for the highest and are the least available, regardless of transmission. Tons of Sports and sr5 trims in my area.

Reading through this thread I’m surprised most aren’t still running bias ply tires too.

I love my MT Sport, but the amount of $$$ in mods to make it capable is daunting, even though I’m only focusing on tires, suspension, and armor for now. I know I’ll eventually want lockers and front and rear bumpers whenever that’s financially viable for me. AC was non negotiable for me, and if I could do it over, I’d look into importing an AC MT OR from Canada! I figure the import costs would equal out to the cost of adding a locker, plus ATRAC would be nice to have.

I know not popular opinion, but I chose to go with the AT. I had driven a stick for past 10 years, most recently 5 years with my Wrangler. I love driving stick to a degree, but won't be doing much offroading, and after a long day, etc. I wanted to just jump in the car and drive, not deal with traffic in manual, etc. Not to mention, the wife can't drive manual... so anytime I went out drinking, had to take her car or I had to drive!

If I am not mistaken the only downside might be that they force you down to a 6 Cylinder if you want the Manual.
