I have the K&N cabin air filter and the cleaning kit. The refresh spray smells a little ganky so I give it a shot of Fre-breeze. I clean mine every couple of months when the pollen is thick and then about every 4-6 months the rest of the year.

Ugh. I can't do frebreeze. Scents for most cleaners and damn floral perfumes fuck me up.

I got certified when I was 18 and did it for a few years. Then life happened and that went away. Sold my gear about 20 years ago and since then concentrated on mtn biking. Was a good golfer too. Same deal. Was a decent MX racer but I gave that up before I killed myself.
So if you want to go tubeless (wonderful improvement) on your bike you only need two things: A tubeless ready rim and Stans. Stans is a magical elixir that will seal up your tires for a year or so and then you have to add a bit more due to evaporation. I went from getting a dozen flats a year with tubes to zero flats now. Even running 8 psi in my 3" wide 29" tire I get no flats.

I'm not looking at deep dives. Just shallow stuff to enjoy the view. We have epic diving here, and I need to experience it, esp after snorkeling in Hawaii several years ago.

I was thinking about Stans, but I had Slime on the shelf. I use it instead of Dynabeads these days. Although, I am thinking about trying airsoft pellets for the motorcycle. It's the halfway ground before I go at it on the Taco.

The tubeless rims are the big hold up for me. Converting tube rims is not a workable solution. I need to get off my lazy ass and get back on the bicycles first.

    Here is what I'm seeing:

    IMG_20180829_170818.jpg

That's a bit too much bypass compared to other cabin filters that we've had.

I use one. Does a good job. Washed and refreshed this past weekend. No issues so far.

What’s up with the poor fit on the K&N? Isn’t it made specifically for our trucks?

Mine fits fine. You may have gotten the wrong size.

I switched over both of our rides a few years ago to the Fram with Arm & Hammer carbon filters and it's been pretty good. No more funky smells. I just put them on subscribe and save and ship out ever 6 months.

I run the K&N electrostatic cabin air filter. The fit is good and it isn't oiled. It has electrostatic recharge spray but is not same as red oil for eng air filters. Yeah, it has a smell but I like that fresh air smell it has for a few months. Have done factory and DIY washable too but staying with the K&N. The filter box for the 3rd gen looks different than the 2nd gen. 2nd gen has narrow slot just for filter to fit compared to that wide open looking pic above.

That has got to be one of the worst product reviews I've seen.

Having used K&N for engines, I wouldn't use one for a cabin filter. The oil smell would drive me nuts. In the past when I couldn't find a cabin air filter at the parts store, I just went to Home Depot and bought an appropriate sized one, then trimmed it down to fit the tray. Just make sure you trim it a little big so that as you squeeze it in the tray it pushes out to seal the edges.

I stopped doing that for a few years but may go back to that method so that I have better choices on filtration.

Same here. And just change them a bit more often during full on AC season.

I would use the Recirculate air button when driving in those severe dusty conditions, when u have the fresh air on it will suck the outside air thru the cowl vent under the wipers and all the dust and dirt with it, if u use Recirculate button it cuts off the outside air thru the cowl and only uses the air that's already in the cabin of the truck, looks like u were sucking in outside fresh air while driving in a severe dusty road.

I was asking if the K&N would fit and seal better. My pic is from the stock filter. It doesn't seem to seal well.

    Sounds good. Thanks!

Well that would have been the second mistake from that run. With the windows down, it seems that I did all that I could to coat the interior in dust. All cleaned up now.

    Stock and staying that way
Thanks to this thread I went out and checked mine. It is nasty. There was tree debris from my girlfriends old house, which she moved out of in May. The truck has been on re-circulate since, and been to the dealer at least once for "scheduled maintenance". I guess I'll order a few of the Fram ones and start changing it myself.

I keep the interior exceptionally clean, wiping it down with Cockpit Premium pretty much every weekend.

At least it is easy to get at. Our past cars, the wiper cowling needed to be removed and the other, while near the glove box, it had to be gently flexed into its spot.

After another dusty trip, I think I am going to order the K&N. Having the windows closed took care of 90% of the initial problem (duh!), but after every stop when I turned on the a/c and the fan up to cool things down a bit, I could see a blast of dust shoot out of the vents. After I got home, I found a similar amount of dust that got past the filter. I don't feel it is the filter media itself, but more that the dust gets by the unsealed edges.

None of the other filters seam to have any edge sealing other than the K&N. Over the life of the truck, I might recoup the cost, but it is mostly about getting a better seal.

    Thanks for the help!

I'll post up the results. I'm just watching it on camelcamelcamel.com for a price drop.

I know that Walmart also sells the K&N cabin filters if u don't care for keeping the filter for whatever reason Walmart has an easy 90 days return policy and u wont have to pay shipping costs to return it
