Last night someone stole my 5th wheel from my gen2 tacoma. I am wondering if anyone in the Denver area has experienced similar issues and how they have fixed the problem. I've heard mixed reviews on the OEM tire locks but at this point I am open to all options. I'd rather not invest in another k02 if some POS is just going to swipe my spare everytime I'm not looking.

Put an alarm pressure switch such that when the tire is loose (not off yet) the horn/lights go wonkers.

    That'll at least startle them.

A dash cam recording rearward wouldn't be a bad thought either.

It's not just a Denver problem. Easy things to walk away with sometimes walk away. Sadly it seems that you need to keep honest people honest (because honestly, if someone really wanted that spare, they would cut through any type of lock you put on there).

A cheap bicycle cable lock with key or combo *should* be enough.
Something cheap like this, go through a hole in the rim and then around the frame where they can't just slip it off easily.

Haven't tried it for fit, but wondered if a bed-wide piece of aluminum angle-iron would work. Open the gate drop it on the back edge of the bed so it covers the hoist opening, close and lock gate. Easier than crawling around underneath to undo a lock.

Literally just had this happen to me in Denver too. It’s insane that there are this many threads on stolen spares. Tacoma should just have the spare tire lock stock.

I just ordered my spare tire and OEM lock, have you had any other thefts since? Did you do any other locking mechanisms?

What do you even do with a single tire? Who out here is selling or buying ONE wheel and tire?
