Hello Everyone! This will be the home for what will be the NEW! 2016+ Toyota Tacoma Exhaust System. My truck will be featured by Dirty Deeds Industries as they create their prototype for the 3rd Gen Tacoma’s! It is a great honor to be able to work with Keith, owner of Dirty Deeds Industries, who has more than 20 years experience with modifying race cars and off-road race vehicles. Please follow along as we document the progess of this build. It will also be a thread where questions are Welcome!

Our 2016+ Tacoma is a work in progress. There will be over 20 options for our trucks!!! A system will have separate parts which will all have to be ordered at the same time to make a complete system. Please read our brief descriptions, but the exact options aren’t available until you see them on the drop down menu.

Two of the biggest considerations to make are, do you want dual exhaust, or single exhaust?? In all of our testing of vehicles with stock exhaust manifolds and stock cats, we have discovered that a single exhaust makes the absolute best low end torque, and if built properly, won’t sacrifice top end performance. The 3.5 Tacoma is no exception to this rule.

Our recommendation is to run a single exhaust unless you plan to run the OvTune twin turbo system. When that system hits the market we will do very very thorough testing to determine whether or not to run dual 2″, 2.25″, or 2.5″, but even today, all of the above options are available RIGHT NOW!!

The separate parts needed are as follows:
    1. Mid pipes
    2. Catback
    3. Muffler section (optional)
    4. Tailpipes (optional)

    1. If the truck needs to be emission compliant we will need to run some sort of a catalytic converter. If you are able to send us your stock mid pipes we can modify them for a small fee, without even touching the cats, for a fully compliant system. If your local laws allow you to run an aftermarket cat then that will save you the inconvenience of having to send us your mid pipes for modification. And if your truck is for off highway use only, then we can build you mid pipes without catalytic converters, there is no oxygen sensors behind these cats so you will not get a check engine light.

    2. The catback is sold as two separate parts. X pipe, or Y pipe, and muffler section. It is also listed as two parts on our site as ‘catback’ and as ‘muffler section’. The catback can have small mufflers installed into it, or it can be straight piped. And the muffler section can have mufflers in it, or it can be straight piped. If you are ordering dumps you will want to purchase mufflers for the catback section (if you desire to have mufflers), if you are ordering full tailpipes you can order mufflers for the catback section, or the muffler section, or both.

    3. Muffler section fills the gap between the catback and the tailpipes. You may choose to keep this section straight piped, or you may purchase mufflers. Some guys/gals will purchase mufflers for the catback and the muffler section to keep their truck as quiet as possible yet still gain the HP/TQ of our free flow style exhaust!! You can also choose to purchase dumps or a turn out instead of a muffler section. For example some guys will purchase our Y pipe with a muffler, then a turn out for the muffler section to have their exhaust exit right before the rear tire.

    4. The tailpipe section is really only needed if your local laws require your exit location to be up and over the rear end, past the cab, or exiting the vehicle completely. Our rule of thumb is to exit the vehicle back as far as possible, and exit the vehicle completely. By purchasing tailpipes you can accomplish one or both of these goals depending on which tailpipe exit configuration you choose.

Progress Update (9/3/2018): Took the Mid Pipes and made them Equal Length

Progress Update (9/4/2018): Smash Section Removed (Aka. Low Stock Crossover Pipe) & X Pipe Built.

Smash Pipe: Both pipes are smashed separately and there is a bend before and after the smash. The inner pipe must be welded together somewhere, but threw it away after getting tired of making cuts. Haha

On to the more important section of this build...the X Pipe! It definitely got rid of the rasp!!!!!

As it is, no mufflers. Pretty sure we won’t need any. It’s pretty quiet. Just has drone. But we will get rid of that with helmholtz resonators.

So far we see two choices:

    1. Raw,raspy, kind of tractor
    2. This!!!

That said, this is only the beginning. There are at least 10 other combos we wanna try with a few other things up our sleeve to make it deeper and still aggressive sounding, with no tractor sound.

This exact combo that is in these videos so far are done and ready for production...... as long as drone is acceptable. Keep in mind, the stock cats (all 4) are in tact in these videos.

After prototyping is done and fixtures are built, we will have BEAST MODE!!! With Rear Cats Deleted!! At that time, with or without Rear Cats, we will start manipulating the frequencies. No promises but we suspect many people will be very pleasantly surprised.

Progress Update (9/5/2018): Dual Tailpipes have been completed!

    1CD028B4-372C-4CBA-B530-FCFA54CA43AA.jpg

With the Tailpipes already being completed, we have a jumpstart on building fixtures. Options, Options Options....The design of the fixtures will allow for duals or single exhaust in the same fixtures with the addition of cats, mufflers, or straight pipes for mid pipes. Speaking of options, send your Mid Pipes in and get them built for you.

When fixtures are done tomorrow (hopefully) we are going to add mufflers to the x pipe section, the tailpipes caused a bit of rasp that isn’t pleasant, then we will analayze the sound one more time to determine what frequency we need to get rid of to cut back the drone.

After that I’m going to throw a curveball at KTJO4x4 and build a single exhaust with equal length Y pipe to see if we can get even better low end torque;)

We are slightly ahead of schedule as of now;) there’s a few things to overcome, but so far 98% of the project has gone exactly as planned!!!

    Progress Update (9/18/2018)

The stock exhaust system consists of the following:

    1. Manifolds (if that’s what they’re called), and as everyone knows, the front cats are welded to the manifolds.

    2. Mid pipes. This is where the rear cats are.

    3. Catback. This is where the muffler is.

    4. Tailpipe. Unfortunately Toyota welds the stock tailpipe to the stock muffler. (I’ll explain later why is said ‘unfortunstely’

    Here’s a quick progress report:

First of all, we modified the stock mid pipes. They both have custom flanges on them now. According to smog nazis of the communistic state that I live in, after the cats is fair game.

Then we built a fixture around them. This gives us SEVERAL options:

    1. If you send us your stock mids we can modify them to work with our catback.
(Our catback will only work with your modified mids or with our custom made Mids)
    2. We can build one off mids straight piped.
    3. Custom mids with mufflers
    4. Custom mids with any other cats.

Second we built a custom catback. It was dual exhaust with x pipe. We made it end before the rear end with flanges so we could bolt tailpipes right to it.

Then we built a fixture around that section. And we designed the fixture so that we could build a single exhaust with y pipe in it if we wanted. That’s right, we can build a dual x pipe. Or a single y pipe in the same fixture. We straight piped Katie’s truck. But there is room for a muffler in the system;) so to sum it up, we can make x pipe. Y pipe. Or mufflers. And we hand build our mufflers to dictate how loud or quiet the system will be. And we are able to size the muffler based on whether or not the rear cats are in place too!!

Third, we built custom tailpipes. These go up and over the rear end. We built the fixture around them to also allow us to build just one if we wanted.

After The first pipes were built, that laid the foundation to start trying things.... first thing we tried was a pair of mufflers. This made the truck really quiet. Without mufflers it really wasn’t all that loud.

After building the dual exhaust and fixtures we tried several configurations. Each of these configurations kept all of the stock cats in place:

•Dual 2” straight piped with x pipe and tailpipes dumped after rear axle.
•same as above dumped right before rear axle
•same as above dumped before place where stock muffler resides.
•dumped where stock muffler resides but with small mufflers
•single exhaust with y pipe back by rear end dumped before rear end no mufflers
•single exhaust with x pipe way far forward no mufflers dumped right before axle
    • same as above dumped just before where rear muffler goes
•same as last 3 above all with a helmholtz resonator
•last ditch effort turned out before rear tire.

In all, single exhaust has way more low end torque. I am happy to send either dual or single exhaust to anyone. However, if you’re not going with Mat’s turbos I highly recommend single exhaust.

My testing in the near future will be single exhaust. I have a little drone to resolve. In the mean time, anybody wanting a dual or single exhaust and whom doesn’t mind a little drone these are ready to go. If drone is a concern then we will need a few more weeks. But this system WILL be rad!

    Pricing will be for:

    1. Mid pipes, and you can send us your stock mids to be modified.
    2. Catback
    3. Tailpipes if any.

I would also like to build a fixture around a stock tailpipe so that we can convert stock tailpipes to be a bolt on. I would love to try a stock tailpipe behind our equal length y pipe. Low end torque would be even better!!!

Progress Update (9/20/2018) We have started building the 2016+ Tacoma web page. As of now there is only a foundation set. We have several weeks of pictures, videos, drop down, and content to figure out!

We also have several weeks or more of research and development!!

Our September and October just got slammed with a few custom projects and a Tundra Group Buy :) But we will work Tacoma research into our schedule too!!

I’ll post videos and pics as I’m able to.

    Thanks for posting @KTJO 4x4

It’s an honor to be a part of this build. I’ve wanted to do a tire dual system on this engine since it came out.

Hopefully there will be some interest. True duals all the way back. With or without secondary cats.

    Totally bolt on

Just out of curiosity, I know you guys offer different systems for Tundras. Will you be offering more options for the tacomas, possibly even for the 2nd gens?

To keep everything equal length we are exiting both pipes behind the rear tire. Or dumped under the bed.
