Tow Hitches For Airstream Etc...

Howdy,

Hitches is one of those topics that starts fights on the Airstream forums so maybe I can get some less emotional yea's or nay's on hitches used with Tacomas and a 4000-5000lb trailer.

Dealer is providing an Equalizer brand or a Blue Ox. Next level is a Propride which looks like ~$2500!

I could probably take the $$ allotted for the Equalizer/Blue Ox and put towards any other they stock......

Any other related advice on shocks etc appreciatted!

A few months ago I pulled a 4.5K trailer on a 1" drop purchased from Walmart for about $30. It pulled fine.

 

Andersen No-Sway. But it cant be used with Atwood 88*** series or Marvel 88* series couplers. This pic is the style you cant use. It cost me $230 to have the coupler changed out at a local trailer shop.


Uses chains with poly bushings/absorbers as the W/D setup and a friction cone in the hitch for sway control. Easy to install. Initial setup takes a little while, after that it is just a matter of setting the # of threads.

Brand new 2019! Sport 22FB, about the max a Tacoma can handle safely. What's yours?

Have had the itch for a vintage one for years but am stuck in an HOA situation that does not allow trailers at all! The search for shop space and a decent shell wore me down and am going new!

But man! They still make these things incredibly well! It's like old world craftsmanship! The interior a bit plasticy but will work till I land where I can tear into it with my ideas!

Its a 1972 Land Yacht 25 foot (I think). Fully loaded with a full tank of water, it weighed in at 5700. However, my build quality and materials are a bit different than original.

 

But a new trailer should be good as for a coupler to use with a no-sway hitch.

My cousin tows his Airstream with a Blue Ox WDH. After seeing him use it I'm sold on it's value. I'm towing my 3500 lb travel trailer without anti-sway or a WDH. The Blue Ox is the one I'll get when I get one.
