How do these connectors work?

I've found this broken wire right next to the connector but I can't figure out how to open up the connector to fix it. I don't want to pull too hard on anything and break more than is already broken so could someone help me out and explain how to take this apart?

 

You won't be able to just pull. Under those red seals are a set of connector pins that have a sort of "barb" on them to keep from being dislodged. Best bet is to go to autozone and ask for a terminal tool. It may have the attachment you need. Based on the pics, you need to slide it in the front where the other side of the plug would go, and disengage the barb. Not familiar with that connector type or I would be better able to help. Looks like a Deutsch conenctor, but I'm not certain.

Looks like your trailer harness or backup cam you are working on. What's the issue?

 

I think the white part is the lock on those ones. Pull the white part out, should come up a few mm's and stop. This removes the lock only. You will then need the correct terminal release tool to stick in and release the tab holding the pin in. Sometimes a T-pin or needle will work but you may damage it without the right tool.

It helps to push the wire in further while you are pushing the terminal tool in at the same time, then pull the wire out.

Those will not pull out.

Take a small pick and pull the rubber back out of the connector so you can push the wire into the connector.

From the other side, with the connector lock on top, like in your pic, you need to slide something under the terminal to release the barb while you're pushing the wire in from the back. Then you can pull it out of the connector body.

 

Pry out the white retainer using a tiny screwdriver. It'll be easier if you just remove it entirely.

...this little tab. Pry up gently on this tab and the pin will pull out the back. Try using a straightened out paper clip with the tip shaved into a chisel shape.
