Got this awning 4 years ago and with lots of use it’s showing it’s age.. Nothing a little TLC can’t fix. The velcro is shot that goes around the horizontal bars. Being sewn into the canvas I really can’t replace it that easily, so decided to add snap buttons to the velcro..

When I removed the sliders and addressed the corrosion on the frame someone suggested VHT chassis paint. I prepped and painted the frame and liked it. So gonna do the same on the sliders.

Slider step progress..

Wire wheeled the second slider today. Started to make the weld tabs for the sliders that the top plate would be riveted to. I made 11 total which is enough for one slider. Gonna tack them on tomorrow and make another 11 for the other side, than paint. Final step will be the template and final cut of the aluminum diamond plate.

Power washed the boat and found a small hole. Researching aluminum boat repair points to aluminum rod brasing as best fix. Gonna be a good time when this thing is sea worthy

My new (to me) mig is having issues so it’s down at the moment.

Really digging this VHT paint.
Cans go quick but it lays on smooth, great hard finish to it, and it’s quick drying.

 

EDIT: Taking the ridiculously obvious route....

Yea the BROG Tacoma Attic. Hella expensive for what it is but I like the custom fit. I’ve played with some netting to make my own but nothing as clean. Also seemed small when it arrived but to hold some rain coats, hats, baby toys, etc.. it does it’s job.

See the reason I asked, is i had a feeling you played around making your own lol, since that was my plan. i think it's a genius space to store stuff, and i'll probs be buying one eventually. it's too perfect for even towels to wipe a muddy dog off haha
