What would cause this knocking/vibration in transfer case? 1983 4WD Hilux/Pickup with manual transmission.

Video starts with truck idling out of gear. I get in, depress clutch and put in 1st then slowly release clutch (no throttle) and the transfer case starts knocking. I don’t fully release the clutch. Depress clutch and put in reverse and slowly begin to release clutch and transfer case starts knocking again. Do same in 1st again then in reverse again.

Transfer case fluid looks good and clean and is filled to the fill hole.
