A 4R build replaces the Tacoma because I got kids (plus FRS and Tundra)

Pulled the trigger on the 2018 Nautical Blue 4Runner TRD off Road non-prem/TRD package at roberts toyota of coloumbia. Gave me a phenomenal trade in on my tacoma as well as replaced all my after market parts with OEM. They are delivering my 4runner to my door along with my parts. Gave me a loaner 4runner TRD offroad in white as well to drive till mine is prepped.

Thanks for the help and already have parts on the way coming to mod. Look forward to having some T4R's at meets. May ask for some help installing or routing items as the 4runner seems a little more technical than the tacoma to mod.

I've already ran wires all over mine, so I can tell you how to remove enough panels to get that kind of stuff done. Did you do KDSS or no?

 

Non-KDSS, reviewed what I wanted/needed. Decided it wasn't a "Make or Break" item. This vehicle will see some off-roading but nothing as crazy as the Tacoma went through (Or at least what i'm thinking it won't).

 

I need to run some wires.
Haven't put in the CB yet and i think i want to run new wire and switch to foglights so i can use them anytime.

Maybe i'll finally fab the cb antenna bracket this week...

What bracket did you go with? Rago is a drill application to mount?! and the Diamond 400k well looks like it just clips into place?

 

Haven't got a bracket yet but I have scrap metal and a welder.


It'll be bolted through the plastic bumper cover under a taillight. I think there is a plugged hole above spare tire that i can replace with a grommet and feed antenna cable inside from there.

I wish wife's truck didn't have KDSS. It's a pain when working on the suspension. But in Hawaii, you can't get a non KDSS trail/TRDOR.

 

Why not just do the foglight anytime mod and use the switch on the stalk?

The Diamond attaches with set screws. It's a good mount, I ran it on my wife's before we got rid of it.

It did add a bit more challenge when lifting, but I definitely think it's worth it.

 

Don't want to open column and cut factory wires. Might wire something else to the oem fog switch eventually.

 

You don’t have to do that. All of the work is done in the fuse box under the hood

 

On tacoma yes, on 4R no.

Getting rid of the DRLs is simply bending a pin on a relay under the hood. This is for puttng LED/HIDs in the high beams, although there are now LED high beam kits that work as DRLs also. In order to do the foglight anytime with the switch, you cut/splice the two wires going to the switch and add a relay with some add-a-fuse pieces going into the fuse panel in the footwell. It's pretty simple, and easily reversible. I reversed the procedure on my wife's before selling it.

 

Gas tank skid almost done.
Welded flat bar strips to oem skid so i could tap holes and have nothing protrude on the tank side. Used 2 small sections instead of 1 big piece to mitigate big thermal expansion differences of plastic vs metal. Still need to spotface the holes and cut screws to exact length.

OEM skid with UHMWPE skin added.

Front skid is being a pain getting plastic to form sharp enough bends.
Mid skid will be easy.
Trans skid i need to make a frame or something since there is nothing there stock.

That price is really high though.
I had a dealer getting it $260, no sales tax, free shipping to my house.
I cancelled the order though after he couldn't get one. Two dealers told me it was out of stock with a stop sale in place so they can't get more.

Some dealers were under $250 but added tax and/or shipping.
