I tow a 4-5,000lb trailer 1-2 times per month. I also tow a smaller 2,000lb trailer once a week. My 2016 TRD OR has less than 23,000 miles on it. These are the buckets I used for the 3 qt spill and fill. I used the Valvoline Max Life ATF Full Synthetic fluid. I will check it in another 7,000 miles when I change my engine oil. I know there is still quite a bit of the stock fluid in there. I may do another spill and fill at my next engine oil change as well. I'd like to get as much of the factory fluid out and replaced with the full synthetic soon. transmission.jpg

Are you doing anything with the computer to determine the right temps and opening that fill plug or just measuring how much you took out and how much you put back in?

What fluids are you using? (I see this answer..I used the Valvoline Max Life ATF Full Synthetic fluid)

You don't feel like making a video do you :)?

No, I did not do anything with the computer. I measured how much drained out and replaced that amount.

I did not do a video. When I do it again in another 7,000 miles, probably another 2 months, I may try to video. I used the Valvoline Max Life ATF Fully Synthetic Fluid

Last question, if you had to guess, how much did you exchange with this method?

I was truly surprised by how "burnt" the transmission fluid at this point of less than 23,000 miles

I haven't had the opportunity to check, but on my GMC I used to pull the relay to the fuel pump and crank the engine over with the tranny pan removed. This purges the torque converter almost 100%, and added almost 5 quarts of fluid to my change. I am sure the Toyota has a fuel pump relay/fuse that you could pull and do the same thing. The engine only has to be cranked for 5 or 6 five second cranks and damages nothing. Certainly more thorough than doing the 3 quart drain and fill.

That’s 1/4 of the fluid. I would think if your going stop do it then just do it all. Drain fill and start the engine for a 3-4 sec and drain and fill and do this 4-5 times or till it’s all red fluid. Seems like a waste to do it like this.

The other way to do it is to disconnect the 'out' line to your cooler and put it in an empty 5 gallon bucket. Put 2 more quarts of fluid than the entire capacity in another bucket and put your 'in' line from your cooler in this. When the bucket with the new fluid is almost empty you should see fresh fluid come out of the 'out' line to the cooler. Shut off the truck, reconnect your lines and then do a final fluid level check and you are done.

I prefer to pull the fuse to the fuel pump and do it that way.
