i have recently gotten bilstein 5100s and ome 886 coils for the front because of my bumper and plan to buy a skid plate. After getting my suspension installed I initially wanted to go with the 2” notch on the 5100s or the 3rd one up not the last notch. So I got it installed and while driving off the lot over a speed bump my front suspension intensely dropped down after every speedbump like it was crashing. I know that new coils should be stiff but I wasn’t thinking this. So after that I realized that my ucas looked very stressed and I need to know if I should take it back and get it on the first notch or not I’m really concerned about my suspension. Thanks!

OME coils with 5100s are meant to be ran on the bottom notch.

The guy at the shop kept on telling me he installed it on other peoples Tacoma’s on the top notch and it was fine and it was hard to believe also with stock ucas

    Well that guy is wrong.
If you want to get the ride better drop them down to the bottom setting.
Also there is no way you are gonna get an alignment in spec the way it is now.

Outlawtacoma is correct even at the bottom Notch they will still drop hard over speed bumps. the only time Billy's did not drop hard over speed bumps was when they wherewere installed on stock coils . I am currently running icons with 600 pound coils with about two and a half inch lift and I still drop hard on speed bumps and square edged bumps.

Like the others said. Put them on zero. The springs should do the lifting, not the shocks.

For more reassurance..... those coils are not meant to be preloaded at all. Set them to zero.

Meh. Many people run them together without issue. My next set I'm switching back to billies.

Update: I took it to the shop today and had them lower the ring to 0 and the ride is a worlds better. Still jolty a little off speed bumps but amazing compared to what it was.

However my ucas still look a bit stressed so I think the coils should get a few miles and then it will probably resolve if not I will be looking for something like jbas total chaos or camburg for ucas

While true that the springs will settle some, do yourself a favor and get some aftermarket UCAs.

I’m also more of a desert off-roader than a crawler so which ucas would fit that need the best?

Jba's. I have all pro ucas. They have been great but when it comes to having to rebuild them they will cost more than the jba's to rebuild.
