Anyone had any luck getting the call quality to improve? The volume is too low and the caller on the other end hears tons of echo. Aside from replacing the factory HU with something better, has anyone found a way to hack it to have better performance?

No issues with sound quality on mine. The only issue I have with the factory entune unit is that 6/10 times when I receive or send a phone call, the whole unit crashes and reboots itself twice.

I have had no issues with mine with call quality or anything else. But I've only had it a short time.

Bottom right button during a phone call. (below "handset mode") You can adjust the gain of the microphone, and make it louder or quieter for the recipient. I have mine set to 3.

I get a lot of wind noise causing bad sound quality when I am on the highway, but I have a roof rack. I am going to try some sound insulation above the overhead console and see if that helps.

Be careful not to make it too loud, you will introduce a lot of static and distortion and make them hate you for blowing out their ear drum!

Check your microphone. If you have sprayed anything in it while cleaning the interior, that could cause an issue. I would then replace the microphone (well contact the dealer), if it continued. The echo could also be caused by the speakers being turned up too loud.

I'll echo this. This was a problem with our Rav4, i assumed it was due to the microphone. You can adjust the call volume on the steering wheel, but that doesn't make the call clearer. Fix it within the setting as mentioned above. We had good luck with this on the Rav4, my Tacoma has been clear since day 1.

Lol. Funny thing is.. I asked this exact question on a Rav4 Forum when we had the issue. Waited 4 days before getting the first response which was, "did you read the manual". OP got a good response within 15 minutes. TW is so good.

Mine works great, excellent call Quality every time. If the volume is too low you either have to turn up the volume on your phone and/or the volume on the head unit

The only issue I had with call quality, I did play with the setting on my first call, is I had initially had the center vents pointed up(ish) causing a lot of wind noise. The wife complained, from other end of the call.since windows were up I killed the AC and she said something along the lines of "Thank GOD!!! that was awful" After that I rolled them over so they point down and back rather than up and back. Have had no complaints about wind since.

I did get one complaint from my son about some "old guy" cussing and honking the horn during our call. It was me when some jerk decided to cut me off as I entered I-95 OMW home, he laughed and told me I needed to get a real horn.

No problem with quality for me in terms of static, etc. But volume is very low which has been frustrating.

My only issue has been the AC blowing causes excessive back ground noise. I "fix" this by using only the front windshield vents while on calls, and not the round vents that face you.

For call sound there are two typically two volume controls; call volume on the head unit and bluetooth volume on the phone. start with both halfway and have someone call you to fine tune.

Any luck with the volume? My 17 Tacoma was fine. Just got my 18 today and with volume all the way up I can BARELY hear the other caller. Also played with the microphone gain and didn’t seem to work.

Thats usually the done within the first 10 posts here. This is a miracle.

Being said, my '17 has no problems and I've only adjusted the sound for what people say not the microphone.

I have zero problems with my calling. With that said, it does not work well when my wife uses it. The only thing I can think of is voice pitch, inflection and how loud you talk is a major factor of call quality.
My wife has a higher pitched voice and talks softly... I have a deep voice everyone can hear across a room...
