Missing driving a stick, will I get hosed trading in for the newest model?

Would I be better off trying to trade another private seller with an MT?

Go talk to the Dealer and see what they can work out, you might be able to get a new 18 on the cheap.

You’ve got nice color (Cement). I’m sure that’s a good selling point.

Dealer will try to hose you. They’re a money making business. That should be the last resort.

I’d sell privately. Then “trade it in” at the agreed on price, then have the buyer buy it from the dealer so you get the tax savings. They call it “in and out” here.

Huh, never heard of that. I’ll look into it, worth seeing what the dealer gives me at least. And trying my luck at this

Talking nimbers is one thing. Signing an agreement is another. They always talk high, then try hose you with hidden fees. Just tread lightly and don't believe what they say.

I'd genuinely consider trading if it wouldn't be such a complicated mess dealing with Toyota financial.

Worth a look. The manual is cheaper and if you're in an area where they have trouble moving them they'll work with you more on the price. How many miles on the '18? Any equity? Depending on the deal you got on your current truck, you could potentially drive out of there in a new truck and keep the same payment.

I got an insane offer on my trade in when I was buying this truck. Walked in hoping to get out of my last car without rolling over any debt. Was offered 7,000 over the payoff. I was so blankly stunned, it took every ounce of reserve I had to not appear absolutely desperate to sign ASAP. After it was all said and done, I went from a vehicle that was likely worth no more than 14k to having about 10k in equity on a new Tacoma. I love the truck with a manual and the color, though, so no desire to trade for anything.

Dang good for you man! How did you do it? Just take it to a Toyota dealer and go for it? Or should I come packing some Carmax trade in and KBB heat?

I went in there bold as hell. I combed 7 lots, checked internet deals until I found the lowest "dealer special" price. I then took $2,000 off that price, calculated the loan amount with a 3% interest rate (I was at 5% with my trade-in through Honda Financial) and $2,000 down. Came up with what my payments would be *if* I was able to seal that deal and figured I wouldn't go higher than $13 more per month. I was definitely brave to straight up offer $5,000 under sticker for a platform in only it's second year.

What's even more shocking is that the dealer couldn't seal less than an 11% interest rate and they lowered the price of the truck / ante'd up the trade-in offer until the deal was within $4 of my goal monthly payment. With those terms I would have been an idiot to walk away.

7 months later I refinanced with my credit union at 2.5%. My payment is less than my Civic was and my payoff is 10K under the kbb trade-in value.

Do it. I traded a 16 auto for a 17 manual. No regrets
