check pictures, hopefully the upload properly.

you can see the bottom corners don't align quite right, and the middle of the hood has a very small (about 0) gap, while there is more near the headlights.

the pictures were meant to show only that the hood comes too close (touching) to the front grill now, where they meet (red against red) at the top center. The old chrome did not get so close - there was perhaps 2mm or so of clearance. I'm putting the Toyota part on now, hopefully it will line up better.

I just put the OEM Toyota-made insert on and it does indeed fit significantly better all around.

I have 3 of these grilles for sale in San Diego, $200 each. They ARE knockoffs but I believe (and hope) that they are good. I've been selling third gen grilles but I just now was able to get my hands on some second gen grilles.
BUT! I don't have a second gen to make sure these are good, im selling these at a lower price than I would like to because I want to make sure they are good before I start buying bulk and selling them on thetacogarage.com I don't want this to happen to people who buy from me....

They are just the insert, you keep your grille surround.
From what I know the swap is pretty straight forward.

Here's an update: I got a Toyota OEM TRD Pro grill installed and it also doesn't fit perfectly - maybe a touch better than the knock-off, but the issue with my truck I think has to do with where the grill attaches to the body of the truck - the fasteners on the inside of the engine bay. I'm going to look at it more carefully this weekend, but I don't think the issue was the knock-off grill, that was probably fine.

Just an FYI to people replacing these grills, make sure to swap the weather stripping from your existing grill, if the knock-off doesn't come with it.

well one more quick update for everyone not following this thread lol... but for posterity: I have pulled off the front grill, and it seems like the (OEM, Toyota) grill is sitting too far inside, towards the radiator - although the lights seem okay - I don't see any obvious signs of the previous owner rebuilding the front end, so I'm not sure what's up - it just sits slight too far in, so I'm going to poke around a little more but don't expect to find an easy fix. The hood seems to be sitting okay, so that's not it either. I'm pretty OCD about this stuff, no one else would notice it I think.

I've been wanting to buy one of the grills, but I have a chrome upper grill "frame", if that's what it's called. Do they sell solid black OEM "frames"? Are the OEM grills worth paying 2X the price?

I bought a knock off, paid $100 for it. Fit wasn’t perfect but it’s not noticeable and looks factory. 76FD6A0A-11BF-4C2B-BC3F-0E69E378B480.jpg

I have about 6 of these, I'll ship them out for 180. I don't have them on my site yet but if there's interest let me know and we can figure it out

    Not bad at all.

When the OP says he couldn’t find anything on eBay, and my five second search pulls up numerous sellers, I’m a little confused...

That post was almost a year ago, I don’t think the fake ones were out yet.

I should really pay more attention. I saw Feb on the initial post and just assumed it was recent. I sincerely apologize to anyone I may have offended.

I was highly offended, I might tweet about it.

I actually only knew that because I followed this thread back then, and decided I couldn’t wait, bought one from the dealership, then wished I had waited.
