Has anyone that was screwed over by Pelfreybilt thought about calling the police? Technically, what they did is theft. I bet if enough people start calling the El Cajon PD, it would get looked in to.

It's hurting businesses on both sides.
But we'll have to leave the politics out of it.

I don't know. I don't know anything about how they run their company. I only comment on the blanket statements being made about all fab companies. The tariffs have certainly created problems, but mostly with availability. Price has gone up a lot and the extra cost will lead to higher product price soon if something doesn't change.

    Federal Court, not state.

If you want to make an impactful statement, file a complaint. Leave your emotion out of it but lay out the timeline of what happened and what you were promised. If you contacted them or they contacted you, document that. Best if you include screenshots too. If you have receipts, make copies and include them.

None of this guarantees you anything but if it’s meaningful and helps define a pattern, the State will use it in any legal action they take. If they do, they may ask questions. Just don’t get your hopes up because the state is gonna do what it’s gonna do and none of that will necessarily be to your direct benefit (except if restitution is ordered).

I know this because of a transaction that went south. I was luckier than most as I got most of my money back.

There’s something to say for the humble one, two, three man fabricating shops, y’know. Keep it small, make each and every customer happy one sale at a time. We all want to line our pockets with cash, but it’s tough to sustain quality, large scale production in the fabricating business.

That's what happened here for the company that did this.

Ontario provincial police were contacted and now they're investigating it and charging the owner.

I was one of the victims. The guy was taking money to pay older orders back that he couldn't deliver.

That’s an unfair statement. It’s unfortunate but this is not a common business practice.

Likely yes, because of competition. Some company will lead the charge by trying to uncut everyone else and we'll all follow. That's how a free market works.

I don’t recall Allpro doing this. They were bought by Trail Gear.

Lol you raise prices on your product because of “tariffs” then the tariffs come back down and you leave the price at the inflated point ??? Guess your customers can see this so ok I’ll avoid your company!

I have been following this since the beginning, and I just read all 53 pages of this thread, and I just can’t get over them blaming the customers for this... it just seems unreal. From the outside looking in, I feel horrible for all those individuals who trusted these thieves. Their responses to the customers of their company, are inexcusable. This all seems intentional now, absolutely disgusting.

Not sure why you're going after @Mobtown Offroad, prices fluctuate in a free market. If you don't like the price of something don't buy it. Mobtown keeps their price where it needs to be to STAY IN BUSINESS.

Yeah. I'm sorry my friends just lost their cars bank accounts house etc. I posted on their fb post. This is a very shitty thing to happen to good people that did nothing but be friends to everyone over the last 6 years. I was unfortunately wrong in this situation and their business went under. Yes some people lost a few thousand dollars. But they get to file claims and go to work tomorrow to make money again. I WAS WRONG. If satin and Tyler call me asking for my last 20 bucks right now you can bet I would give it to them.

I was wrong. Plain and simple. It's a shitty situation. And yes I would still give them the 10k if I had it.

I’d like to to add that in addition to a kick ass product, Morgan (@At The Helm ) asked for a small deposit up front and then when it was going up on the bench for welding he sent me an invoice for the balance. Great customer service, honest guy and short lead time.

    Highly recommended!!!

    You’re generalizing.

Tariffs raised material cost but more importantly they created a shortage. Mills stopped producing in the states because the states could get material from other countries for less.

All year long we’ve had to call mill after mill hoping we could find what we wanted when last year it was never a problem and local. Now we have it trucked in from NC.

The material prices may lower eventually but other prices may rise which like shop rent, labor, etc. Let’s say market grows on housing and demand rises on commercial space because the economy is up. That means landlords will want more for the building we are in, fabricators will want more because their rent is more or they bought a house and housing prices are up. It’s all related.

I'm not saying the customer built this mess in any way, but I do know how entrepreneurial finance and investment works and how legally private those talks are and I saw what unfolded on social media both in support of them and out of fear of losing money. All my post was going for was that I felt bad for everyone as I truly don't believe the Pelfrey's were intentionally out to screw anyone, rather that things got out of hand and snowballed, that's all.

The price is set by what customers will pay. There are many factors that drive what customers are willing pay. But I don't think it's wrong to charge the most that they will pay and deliver what they paid for. That's just business. I bet you don't walk into your boss' office and offer to work for less.

If you want to avoid us over a silly internet discussion, then please do. It's your money and I support your right to spend it where you want.

i was saying that i wasn’t just saying their good people and they’ll right the ship.

also why would anyone want them to right the ship? because there is a fuckton of people who have no recourse to getting their money back. so yeah i would have liked to see them right the ship over loosing money
