I'm not quite following...on 2009 and most years after, there are only LATCH child seat anchors visible on the drivers side rear, or if you mount the seat on the front seat forward facing, and run the the top anchor belt to the mount below the rear passenger headrest, thereby making that seat unusable. I took off the rear plastics, and there are lower LATCH anchors on the passenger rear side, but you'd have to cut holes in the trim to make them visible. Toyota should have had 3 seats in the rear, and had anchors in the rear center seat. It's the safest spot for a child and would allow both front seats to go further back. As for a skewed rear field of view from an offset camera, that is a good point, but I just want to see if there is something behind me, so i don't need museum quality prints from the camera.

The real reason everything has rear cameras is safety, if the tailgate is down a kid could be under and you don't see them, the camera points down and gives you the view needed. Since now one should be backing up to trailer with the tailgate down anyway what does it matter. This may all be BS that I made up or it might be true, you decide...

I’m with using the mirrors and even turning your head and looking back.
