Gen 3 bed rails????

I am new to Tacmoa world. This is my first post and need your help. Just purchased a 17 TRD sport. After purchasing from an non Toyota dealer I noticed that it didn't come with bed rails. Was this standard equipment and possibly taken off? So went to my local Toyota dealer and asked for a price on the mentioned part. To my surprise and the parts department associate they can not be purchased. Said that they come from the factory. He suggested a junkyard or the internet. So I went to the internet, no luck. Called the junkyard and was told the truck models were to new to part out. You can find all kinds for Tundra but not Tacoma. Any suggestions?

 

No worries man. You don’t want the factory ones anyways. They are a weak point in your trucks bed. Get the KBVoodoo bed and tailgate caps. They are much stronger than the OEM ones that are known to break.

PT278-35100-BH Truck Bed Header Rail" is for the one under the window. I bought one, can confirm it is direct fit for a 2017 DCSB. The bed on my truck already had the necessary screws to mount it.

 

I think OP is asking about the accessory rails, not the rail caps.

I think it's standard equipment to have the accessory rails along both sides of the bed. There's a third one that you can get that goes in teh bed under the cab window, I got mine via Amazon (

The side (& head) bed rails can be ordered at any dealer or bought online. 3rd gen Tacomas did not come with a head bed rail from the factory, but a rail from the 2nd gen Taco works fine. The parts associate you dealt with is an idiot and should be avoided.

 

A new truck comes with the side rails. Yours got ripped. As mentioned above, you can get the rail for the front in several places.

Thanks for all the quick replies. I go back to the dealer and get a different associate. Also do they make any aftermarket that may be stronger or are the ome good (strong).

 

OEM's have been fine for me. I used to haul two mountain bikes with fork mounts on my front rail and never had any issues.

What the durability for mounting a rack that uses the tracks and putting heavy sit on top kayaks.

 

As far as kbvoodoo bed caps or tailgate cap, I am pretty sure they are out of the business of making the rear and the plain fitting side rails.

I will likely get the a rear cap from Moboffroad but have not found a supplier for the side rails.

 

my 2017 came with side rails but no rail behind the cab. I purchased one off Amazon and it bolted straight on.

Did you have any luck getting replacement rails? I bought a 2017 last Friday 4 hours from our house and didn’t realize I was missing mine until the next day. So I’m on the hunt now too.

 

Correct.

Toyota did an excellent job with the 3rd gen side rail caps and tailgate caps (most likely to improve the abysmal job they did on the 2nd gen caps), so we won't be making anymore of them for the 3rd gen.

@97srhs24 The factory accessory rails are surprisingly strong. We have thousands of customers attaching everything you can think of to them, without a single reported issue.
