Cool trailer, do you have a build thread or some more pictures of your trailer?

I used a Hayden Automotive 679 Rapid-Cool Plate and Fin Transmission Cooler. Got it on Amazon. If you list a 99 Tacoma V6 their screening system will say something to the effect that "this does not fit your vehicle", but it does. I think the default Hayden product is one size smaller (I forget what the item # is) and that's the one that will show up if you do an Amazon search for a transmission cooler with a Gen 1 truck listed as in your "garage". Read somewhere (maybe here!) that this one, being a bit bigger, does a noticeably better job of cooling. I (actually a master mechanic neighbor of mine) didn't go in-line, but put this on a separate loop. My info (not necessarily valid) is that the factory one does little and that there is some slight risk of the barrier rusting through between the coolant and the transmission fluid in the stock radiator, which would be... bad ;-) Note that even though installation instructions say you can leave radiator in place to install these, my buddy just pulled the radiator for easier access. No big deal to him, would have been a semi major pain in the butt to me. Figured it wouldn't hurt to replace the coolant anyway. I have no trans temp gauge so can't report on effectiveness.

Forgot to add: you'll probably need to buy more trans fluid capable tubing if you go with this kit. I think their kit includes good tubing but not enough to install "non in-line" with stock cooler.

The gas mileage and towing increased with the latest ECM TSB applied that fixed the shifting.
This was running ~70 mph on I-40 West from Memphis in to Arkansas for almost 250 miles. I did try to draft 18 wheelers whenever I could.

I am a newbe here and I have a 2018 Tacoma TRD 4x4 with the tow package and automatic trailer sway control. I am planning to tow an ultra lite 18 ft travel trailer, dry weight 3350 lbs wet 4400 lbs. I will have a new weight distributing hitch with sway control. I think the truck should have no problem towing the trailer, any suggestions would be appreciated.

Ohh I agree but I needed it and towed it less than 5 miles. Sucked ass and I drove with the hazards on and went no faster than 35. But I didn’t have a choice and no full size truck to use either

Hey now, know need to call me a dipshit. I did what I had to do for a very specified reason. I new what what I was doing even with my heavy leaf pack and adjustable suspension for heavy loads it was too much. But it’s my fucking truck, if it broke I’d take care of it. But don’t call me a dipshit. U don’t even know me.

I’ve read that a manual transmission is bad for towing...so I chose to ignore that advice and tow this.

It was on a hill and I promptly got stuck...we had to take the gator off and pull it up the hill. My poor little prerunner did great on the road though.

I have towed 1000s and 1000s of miles with my Tacoma with a 6-speed, no issues whatsoever. most of those miles we were pulling a 3500 lb Casita, then I towed a 4500 lb Escape 21 from Dallas to Reno to the west coast.

I think your issue in that photo above is your tires more than your transmission. put a good set of a decent A/T tire on there and I bet you wouldn't have gotten stuck.

Yeah I wondered about that. It wasn’t a deep rut, just slick. So, i’m sure it was driver error and tires.

my recently acquired 2002 f250 4x4 has crappy chinese highway tires, its got no freekin traction whatsoever on wet or loose stuff. my tacoma had fresh BFG A/T KO2's and all kinda bite on all kinda surfaces.

this was my camp after initial unload setup Wednesday-Sunday at CalStar 2018, Lake San Antonio, in south Monterey County, California... days were 100F, we were up til 4-5am each night stargazing. I didn't get a picture of the rig hitched this time, but it was same as it always is. the big drum on the lounger is the upper part of my 20" f/5 telescope.
